I just beat my bank account with a club!

I just popped my bank account in the nose

Mint Ebony Firehawk leather seats $575
New ACC carpet $135
Raammat audio padding $50
New weather stripping for the t-tops and head liner $300 installed
Baer front and rear disc brake kit w/ booster and adj valve $1000
17x8 ROH Snypers $775
245/45-17 Pirelli PZero Nero $600
Moog Idler arms / centerlink / tie rods $175
. . .and alignment job $75

TOTAL: $3,685 (looking at the total like this is so depressing now)

But the car is now almost done. A computer tune and $300 in stereo equipment and she's all done.

It looks like alot as a total, but I'm sure if you sat down and calculated what was spent, say over a years period of every little thing involved in the modification, you'd sh*t yourself.

With mine, i found a tonne of money went to stupid little things like hoses, fittins, wrap, cleaner, all the stuff you never think about.

I just did a full 3" dual exhaust, minus the headers and the mufflers, the 90 bends in SS would have been $60 a pop if I had to buy them, and with the number I used, plus the pipe, then through in the cost for the headers, mufflers and CATS, I figured, I just stuck a $1400 exhaust on the car.

Don't feel too bad now, on my site, the garage system add's up all the costs of the mods you add in and the installation costs.. This total is without even touching the motor yet.. Love the color btw, looks awesome.

Total Spent 22297 USD

Sounds like a nice upgrade. One question: What do you mean by booster when mentioning the brakes and where did you get them?

Where were the parts ordered? Those priceses seem really low. Is that just me?

I am mainly reffering to the MOOG stuff and the Bear stuff

If you got that stuff for 175, what is Spohn selling for over 300????

Fill me in, I need to buy these parts very soon

I didn't buy the entire Moog kit. I only got the centerlink, idler arms and tie rods from NAPA. The Baer kit I got from someone on here in the classifieds. . . never used and retails over $1700.

you guys are lucky to have only spent such a little amount.....

in the past 8 years i've bought my car, sold it and bought it back. not to mention completely rebuilding it fully twice and then partially changing it almost every year to keep up i could have several c5's in the parking lot. wouldn't be nearly as fun though.

i bought my 91 and spent roughly 12,000 in the first 4 years it was a daily driver which included the paint. my last drivetrain with exhaust was easily over 14,000. wheels, interior and suspension another 15,000 and that's with doing most of the labor myself.

the new car i have 8,000 into the ls2, 3,500 into the air ride, 6,500 into the brakes, rims and tires. 21,000 into the paint and interior. so i don't want to hear it, i wish i could have spent 3,000 and been almost complete. the list looks nice, car looks great... keep it up!

on the good days yes.

point is you don't have to spend a fortune to build a nice looking car which the above is growing to a great example. the side picture shows the silver off really well.

Actually, that's not a very good picture of the car at all. It hadn't been washed and I had yet to remove the peel on the paint. It looks even better than that now. I'ld take more pics, but I can't seem to locate my digital camera.

I agree with Kandied, your getting off easy. But don't get me wrong, you spent a boat load of money no doubt!

Think of it this way, you spend all that cash and you now have a great machine thats a pleasure to drive which your thoroughly enjoy, right? Its basically a new car inside and out, but better yet it is customized to your desires and it is now more performance orientated then it ever was.

or..., you could have went out and, for the same price, bought a brand new 4-banger Honda Civic with power windows and A/C. Which would you rather have?

$16,600.... I think you got one hell of a bargain!

Well the whole "not going overboard" was my intentions from the beginning. My last project went overboard (ie poly bushings on everything, big cam, loud exhaust etc) and the thing was an absolute PIA to drive everyday. I'm not one to build a trailer queen, so all of my projects have doubled as daily drivers, so this time everything was planned meticulously far in advance. Sure I had some things that I mulled over up until the last minute (the Snypers being one), and some things knocked on my door as an opportunity (such as the awesome deal on the Baer kit).

I set out with this project with a few guidelines:

1.) To be as fast as a new (new at the time 2001) Z28, and I've just about made that goal.

2.) To be as smooth as a new sports car (eg quiet interior, comfy ride that can handle if it has to)

3.) Not too flashy, almost sleeper-esque outside appearance, but unique and clean. Almost trying to give it a look like it's a new sports car that I just bought off the lot.

I don't have some of the skills that others have on here, but I've networked well, done what mechanical things I could, and paid for what I couldn't. I didn't always buy the top end stuff, but it was always quality stuff, never compromising. And if I can give anybody on here one tip on your project, it's planning!, planning!, planning!

I think when this thing is all done in a month or so, I will have meet my goals. I'm happy with the results, and I've managed to do it making low-level enlisted pay and 2 deployments overseas.

WOW

Gunny, that is one hellava color. Can I flatter you and paint my car the same color? What color is that? You have one sweet looking ride. I share your philosphy on what you want out of the car. Of all the upgrades I've done, I bought only the top notch stuff. I think for Christmas I'll be getting either a paint job, or chrome plating the stock 92 Z28 wheels (still deciding).

I think the real story is he needs to represent for the Third Gen!

But it is really because his friends think they have better cars when they don't! He just has to maintain appearances.

Gunny, looks great, I deffinantly think 3000 clams is a lot of money, but I've doen mine on a budget adn I now have $23,000 into mine, coarse I've documented every single receipt. I have a folder off reciepts that is almost 8 inches thick! But in actuall value I probably have almost 30K in it. I had a lot of friends who did stuff for free or cost. Like my first engine, the machine work was done for free!

Anyway, nice ride and looks killer!

Why haven't you answered on the color? I think it looks bad *** as well. My '85 Z was originally some gray color and I think it would look awesome repainted whatever color you've got on your car. So if you could fill us in on what it is exactly PLEASE.....

Dupont Pepper Grey Metallic

If you do a search for it in the appearance forum, it should come up with a thread with the exact color code. I can't remember the exact number anymore.
