85 horn haywire
Ok so I know this may seem like a dumb question but, how does the horn work in cars (specifically 85 trans am). Im new to the car fixing thing, more of a computer person than car but imt trying to learn with my new car but time is short.
Anyhow on the wheel the cover for the horn, with the bird on it, was upside down when I got it, so I turned it around yesterday. today it randomly started honking, sometimes when I turn, sometimes when I slow down...soemtimes just randomly. I dont know what this could be, really. Is it crossed wiring, is metal touching somewhere it shouldnt be? Nothing looks broken or really worn down on the steering wheel or behind the button. im getting ready for work now ill put some pictures up later if it would help.

Alot of times, in the event of a wreck the metal plate/tab under the horn is bent. This will make it randomly honk (or make it super sensitive or not work at all). It's easy to get to - and can be easily replaced with a junkyard find.
I've dug into the column a bit...my horn spring broke

Your horn relay in the convenience center above your right knee in the driver's seat may also need to be replaced.

Thanks for the reply guys. I have looked at the plate underneath when I changed the direction of the cover and nothing seemed bent so it must be the relay. Ill check the tab again though tomorrow then the relay. Thanks again guys I appreciate it.

Forgot one thing: if your interior lights, power locks, cigarette lighter, and hatch release don't work either, your problem is a blown CTSY fuse.

Ok I looked for that fuse box and didnt see it (midnight..) but anyhow today it was going off on me on my way to work, i took the tab off and the wire came with it...but it still does it...
I can hear a clicking when I turn the wheel sometimes then usually the honking follows.
I figure if I could find the horn under the hood I could disconnect it temporarily until I have the time and help to fix it. I know its asking a lot lol but could anyone take one of these two pictures and show me where my horn should be so I can disconnect it (if possible)?
(Yes I know its dirty and needs love but I got it that way )

it's in the drivers side fender next to the windsheild washer bottle. There may be 2 of them... my 87 Sport Coupe has dual horns, side by side
