Rim passed me as my car slamed going 55,

yeah thats right, the frigin z06's. Someones been messing with me. First the tires flat so i check for leaks then pump it up and its fine-going on 5 days now its fine. Well heres the details,

Going about 55 checking my mirrors everythings fine just a normal morning to work when suddenly I start to feel a slight wobble, feels like its coming from the front (i'm thinking calipers) I give it about 20 seconds. Then out of no where BAM!. Car slams to the ground to the sound similar of a dragging trash can. I fly back, Grab the wheel tight and get the car over to the shoulder as out of the corner of my left eye I see my z06 at its full show potential looking good spinning past me like a rocket, probably got up to like 80. Rim landed in a field as i grinded to a stop. The rims pretty much shot. The back part of the rim is all scratched up from the drum. Also where the lug nuts slide in the rim the holes are all opened up. I belive someone did this on purpose. The cars damage is only paint, just on the lip its all black from the rubber rubbing.

Some advice= If you ever feel an odd shake from your car pull over immediately.

That sucks.

Time to invest in a few set of wheel locks.
Good luck on finding who did this.
Post pics when you catch them.

Damn this makes me want to rant. Sorry to hear about your situation. Screw all the haters out there, stinking bastards!! Some haters almost got me earlier this week, they tried to egg my car but the missed. Bad aim and they probably throw like girls!! Cant stand it when people decide to mess with nice cars for no reason. Where do you park your car? You might want to consider some sort of spy camera or something. I happened to know someone with one of those X10 cameras from E-bay that didnt want it anymore so I'm setting it up where I park my cars. Then once you know who they are you can either sick john law on em or confront them yourself.

No disrespect intended, and either way, I feel bad for ya, but I gotta wonder about the spacers.

They just don't look safe to me, and it's not like this would be the first time something like this has happened.

Again, I hate it for ya bud.

Sounds like someone tried to steal your rim but couldn't get the lock off, then the loose lugs destroyed the rim enough to pop it off.

Happened to my mother in laws pickup truck... Her brother in law only tightened one lug and for some strange reason put it down and forgot about it... Three or Four days later they almost lost the wheel. Same thing you're describing, elongated lug holes.

i also hate to say it bc im sorry to hear about your misfortune...i too have had some unfortunate events in the past month or so with my GTA but wheel spacers are synonymous (hope i got that right) for causing wheels to come off

at discount tire (where i work) we are extremely reluctant and sometimes turn customers away when they have those spacers bc if they arent put on just right and sometimes even when they are on right...they can easily cause the wheel to come loose and fall off

good luck with everything

happened to me in my 87 camaro. had the stock rims, coming home one day and i hear a loud slam and i see my rim rolling right next to my car. now that i look back at it, its kinda funny, but i locked up the brakes, flat spotted my driver side front rotor, and had to walk 2 miles to the nearest house to call my folks to come and get me.

man that sucks sorry to hear about more problmes for ya...

BUT before i would blame someone for screwing with it i would check your spacers... when did you last retorque them? they do require re touch every so often and after install. was the spacer still secured to the hub after the wheel came off? or did that get chewed up too? how about a couple pics..

What is it about spacers that make them such a problem?

I mean, they bolt on just like a wheel, use the same studs, etc??? Why does everyone blame this stuff on the spacers?

maybe its because this has caused wheels to fall off in the past.. although it is most always by not retightening as direction says to do.

Hate to hear that the wheel got trashed, they looked good on the car.

I wonder which spacers were used. The ones that just go behind the wheels using existing lugs or ones that bolt to the lugs which have lugs for the wheels themselves. I know someone who has been running the billett spacers with the additional lugs for over a year with a set of ZR1's which have no problems with them

Which would not be the spacers fault. That is the users fault. Blame the lazy guy who didn't re torque, not the spacer that was doing its job as best it could.

thank you guys for the sympothy, but it had nothing to do with the spacers. The rim came off at the lugs of the spacer, the spacer is on tight. thanks for the comments, some people just get jealous because of how much you adore your car . Not like i get everything easy, I work for it all. and someone stole my dirtbike a few months ago. I'm not in a bad place but its starting to not look too good.

That sucks dude. I knew it wasn't your or spacers fault from the get go, you said people have been messing with your car. I was asking cause everyone points at the spacers.

That sucks that your rim is trashed. Hope you find out who did it and get things taken care of.

welp, the rims not really trashed I took a good look at it. The rear lip that you can't see look like someone took a grinder to it, and the holes are opended up a bit for the lugs. Its just not the same as it is. I'll probably buy another rim alittle later on. But for now i gotta deal with it and get this motor done. the 2.8 isnt cutting it for me

If the lug hole have been opened up, it might be hard to center and will wobble. I would be real leary about using it.

my dad checked it out and said it will be alright and that its not bad enough to the point where i cant run it. Just the damn weights fell off that were stick ons when i got it balanced. so it wobbles i tiny tiny bit right now, I got up to 70 and there wasnt really any problems, yes the 2.8 got up to 70 hah
