Why don't you just buy a Camaro and you wouldn't have to worry about mocking up lights?

Yes, those are Grand Prix headlights, and yes, it looks fake because it was made in Paintshop. But that is what I've been striving for, but it was harder to explain than show it.

Only the Firebird has the bodylines of a... go figure... Firebird but, the semi-truck headlights that pop-up do look like s--t.
Call it the one design flaw to the package the person asking the question is looking to change to make the car 'perfect' in thier eyes.
Other's call it customizing.
Cars don't adapt and change styles on thier own.

The GP light would be hard to fit into the bumper like the photo. If you look at the lines of the two car you could tell why. It looks much better and easier in that pic than it would be in real life.

Of course the nose clip would have to be modified, I'm gonna try to keep the original lines, but the light mod gives it a late 2nd gen (77-78) feel to it. It's just my preference, and I do appreciace the input, but don't tell me to get a Camaro if I don't like pop-ups, cuz I'm not looking for a Camaro, I just want to do my own unique thing. Plus the whole foglights as driving lamps gives me concern about DOT regulations plus the state and local fuzz.

why not convert to the 91/92 style lights? They are considerably smaller than the 82 - 90 design. You'll have to do some fab on the bezel lip though

Hey KrisW, Go ahead, the thing that's gonna bother me is I won't be the first with an actual working model, oh well. If you do go through with it, tell me how it went. (I really have to make an insturction manual, maybe then it would clear things up )

I've been thinking alot about it. Its gonna be easier for me, I think. I don't run ground effects, so I could start with the 82-83 fiberglass nose piece. I think if I start with fiberglass, I could just hack the nose down and re-glass it in the way that your picture is. I don't think they make the 85-90 T/A nose in fiberglass yet, do they? If they do, you may beat me to it. I'm overseas right now and won't be home till February to work on my car. I'm probably gonna worry about the engine first (obvious reasons.) I'm saving this thread, though, because its gonna happen at least once to one of my cars.

Also on the 84 gmc trucks
Aerostar...
I'll excluse the K-cars so no one's eyes get set ablaze..
Not trying to be a dick about it but, they are huge lights more common to a truck or van than a car.
The Tucker, had you checked the link provide I gave, is simply, a Tucker. The man, the dream. A guy who treid to start his own car company gainst the big 3 and lost due to being ahead of his time... and crushed for that.
KrisW.. all F-body nose fascias are urethane.. none were fiberglass to my knowledge... exclusding Knight Rider.. which obviously isn't factory.
*please excuse the budweiser typos

I'm sorry. I meant the aftermarket fiberglass racing style replacements. I have seen them for the 82-83 nose, but none others. I probably should have been more clear on that.

(not his car but, a 74 malibu for comparo). Ultimate demolition derby car too btw
About the "had you checked the link provide I gave" comment I said.. my apologies.. I misread what you said...." ah yeah tucker made that car, i forget what they called it, im not too into 50's cars or 40's but i member readin sumthin about it somewhere...." as being 'oh yea, it's a Tucker... xx model...'. Sorry about that.

very cool topic. I'm surprised i didn't come across it sooner. About 1 1/2 to 2 years ago I did a similar photoshop using Flyinlow89's T/A (well, it was his at the time). Here's what I came up with. I already got a headlight assembly from a Grand Prix and it looks like the headlight pocket will need to be extended down about 1/2" to 3/4" to fit properly. The assembly looks like it'll fit very well width wise.
I've come to the conclusion that the only way to modify the bumber to fit the lights and to be durable is to make a new cover out of fiberglass. From my research, cutting and bonding urethane isn't an option if you want something that will last.If I decide to take this project on, I'm going to modify an extra bumper I bought to look the way i want it and then use it as a plug for a fiberglass mold. After all that, there's still the issue of fabricating mounts for the assemblys and the metal piece that supports the hood latch will also have to be cut for clearance.
Here's the photoshop i did way back when. I was keeping it secret until I actually started working on it, but what the hell... the cat is out of the bag.

Very nice, the more I see it the more I want one!
Ever thought of using the aftermarket 82 nose and glassin' it up a bit to look like the 85? At least it already bolts on. Maybe its easier and maybe not. I wouldn't know, I'm just thinking out loud.

That's exactly what I'm talking about JeremyNYR! I'm more about aerodynamics than anything, and let me tell you, them pop ups really mess with air flow when you're haulin' 120 mph @ 3 a.m.
More on that, maybe later......
