Son of a B.... Have you ever burned your hand on an aluminum shifter ****?

Holy crap! I could hardly get my car into gear with the B&M Megashifter today with temps reaching into the 90's all week so far. T-tops and Iowa's stupid no tint laws make that thing a scorcher... I swear I could boil water or cook an egg on it! That aluminum **** has got to go!!!

Has anyone else ever kicked the aluminum handle to the curb? What **** did you end up using? (searched and found some *****, but not many Megashifter ones)

Odd, usually aluminum is more resistant to heat. For example, when I go roofing (shingling), the steel square will burn your fingers if left in direct sunlight, but the aluminum one is always cooler to the touch.

Yeah, aluminum does have better heat shedding properties, but not good enough in a green house of an interior that a T-top F-body has. YOWZA!

How does carbon fiber do in the heat???

Yep, normally I use my windshield shade and throw a rag over the
top of the steering wheel and shifter......but I forgot one day last week
I ran inside, not intending to go anywhere the rest of the day-but
something came up, and I had to leave an hour later.

I felt like Kwai Chang Kane lifting the vat full of molten metal with
his wrists, burning the dragons onto his forearms....'course mine
says Hurst......not as cool.

any shiny polished surface is going to be insanely hot when left in direct sunlight... so anything your going to be touching, you do not want to be shiny and polished

Aluminum has excellent heat transfer properties, it is not "resistant to heat." Aluminum is used on heatsinks because it absorbs the heat quickly and then dissipates that heat into the air quickly. However, if there is nowhere for the heat to go, the aluminum will maintain that temperature. Aluminum foil is literally 400 degrees when your oven is set at 400, because there is nowhere for that heat to go. When you take it out, though, the aluminum cools very quickly to room temperature.

I wouldn't ditch that ****, because it looks great. Just keep it covered so it's not in the sun and let it cool for a moment when you get in.

Which **** is it?

Why not get the t-tops tinted, it's not the side glass and it would be no different than having a hardtop. But I agree, just grabbing my black shiftknob after the car sitting was bad today. Gonna have to toss my windshield screen back in the car.

Doesn't matter, I work in a small office and my car is only 10 feet away from me all day long. Don't need the shield at home because it's in the garage there. Man, I'd love to catch someone trying though... I've been feeling like giving someone a good beating lately.

Already are tinted. Still lets in more than a hardtop. I guess I could just start growing some tomatoes in there or something as steamy as it is this week.

That doesn't help me much, but it does look cool. Aluminum is aluminum and yours would still burn my hand.

I just got back from a late lunch and boy did that sunshade help me out! I could actually go from gear to gear normally without trying to slap it from reverse to drive as fast as I could. Ahhhhhhhhhh...

Sorry for the silly cry baby post, but this is my first summer ever in almost 20 years of driving that I've ever had a car with T-tops and an aluminum shifter that tried to burn my hand off. I've had T-tops before, and I've had metal shifters before, but never in the same car so it was always managable. Future crisis averted.

Man, do I have a solution for you.....

Figure out a way to make it a quick-release shifter handle, and\if you do ever catch someone trying to swipe your ride, you've got
a set of hand-fitting knucks with you!

You could always wrap it in leather, I guess. I had the same problem when I had the Megashifter in my Formula, sometimes I'd grab a glove.

I actually have the same shifter **** on mine, but in black plastic instead. B&M still sells them, but the carbon fiber are discontinued as far as I know.

I would keep a spare sock under the seat. Just pull it over the shifter when the car is parked. I'd make sure its clean though. You don't want too "Stink" up the interior.

i made a ball type for my camaro, man does that thing get hot while i am at work, i just roll the windows down before i set in the car andi always try to have it in the gear that i am gonna need to get out of the parking spot. that way i don't have to touch it more then absolutely necessary. once i get some air through the car, then it cools off to ambient temperature

As stated, I took care of the shifter handle temp problem by using a silver reflective window shade.

You have the same shifter? Your cardomain site pics shows the Hurst dual gate shifter.

Yes, I will be going to Josh's meet. I should have quite a few parts lined up to sell for my polishing biz, so I simply can't miss it!

i dont know if ive seen it before, but it comes to mind.
have an upholstry shop stitch leeather on it. would look similar to a trans am stock automatic shifter.
gets my vote. towels and socks hanging over the shifter is silly.
