window replacement

alright, i've spent about 1/2 an hour searching, so i guess it's time to ask.

I have 2 trans ams... i want to take the windows out of one and put them in the other because the one i'm fixing up has big scratches in them... anyways, i've been messing around witht he window trying to get it out and i can't figure it out.

so, if anyone could tell me how to swap these windows that would be most excellent.

by the way, i'm talking about the windows in the doors :-)

i've taken out just about every bolt....probably too many and some home managed to get one off the tracks, but it has that big roller that won't slide up out of the window...

sorry if i'm rambling, please help, thanks :-)

Not much help probably... But I seem to remember reading something about having to drill out some rivets.

Try taking a look at the rivets and see if any new ideas pop up.

I also heard that those regulators can be pretty scary? Don't know how true that is or if it was exaggerated... I DO KNOW that I didn't mess with them the other day when tackling door and window rattle just because I read that and I didn't want them springing up and breaking my window.

Even though I wanted to take the electric motor out while the panel was off (it recently burned out anyways)

yeah, there are rivets that attach the window to the bracket that holds the window... but i was hoping i could just take the whole thing out and put the one from the other car in with the bracket that's already on the other window... and those rivets look pretty beefy... not sure if my lil pop riveter will be able to replace those....

Everyone else just replaced them with regular nuts and bolts.

Use red loctite if you're really worried... Those things won't come off unless you cut them or put some serious heat to them if you do that.

MANY other threads when I searched awhile back because the passenger side motor on mine was out when I bought it. (STILL haven't done it, but I started on it today, lol)

No one rivets the thing back in, they all just used bolts. I'm 100% sure of that.

That's what I'm doing.

I gutted my doors. I had a hard time getting the windows out of the doors but I did get them out. It was the last thing out. I drilled the rivets out of the door motors and removed the regulator and all the tracks and then removed the windows with the rollers still installed. I'm pretty sure after a new paint job I will drill the rivets out on the windows before they go back in.

well, you're a better man than i... i couldn't get them out w/o drilling out the rivets.... altho the rest of the door wasn't completely gutted... but i dont think it would have helped... i couldn't figure out the puzzle :-P .... so anyone know how to reattach the window to the roller? :-) .... some sort of riveter i suppose... don't think my pop riviter is gunna cut it ..

I had replaced the door motors prior to deciding to gut the doors for the restore job. I used rivets I had purchased from the car dealership for 1.00 each. I later found out you can get them about any hardware store. I used a heavy duty rivet gun similar to the one in the link below. I know the rivets in the windows are a little different than normal rivets. I'm trying to find a source for those. I know alot here just use bolts and nuts with locktite. I may myself before it's all said and done.
