Cleaning Window Tracks/Slow Windows
so everyone knows we have incredibly slow windows and its been discussed a ton but...what i dont see are any posts about how to actually go about cleaning the windows. so, how do you give the windows (tracks) a good cleaning? do we have to take apart the entire inside of the door?
im also going to run a relay when i learn a little more about how to do it and i think new motors with fresh lubed tracks and a relay for each motor is gonna make these motors fly. plus, im going to lube everything associated with the door locks since mine are sticking.
any tips how to clean them?

Yes you have to pull the whole assembly out of the door to fully clean, lube, and adjust it. But you really don't have to.
I just swapped out both of my motors. On the drivers side I didn't even take off the door panel. I just bent and proped it up. (No it was not damaged at all. I was in a crazy mad hurry and it didn't want to come off.)
I used a a brake clean soaked rag to clean the tracks and used wheel bearing grease everywhere there is metal to metal contact and inside the tracks, at least everywhere I could get my fingers.
They are now as quick as they need to be.

well i got in the door today and fixed my passenger side door lock along with the drivers sides lock cylinder itself. both my motors were replaced about 2-3 years ago and the work like crap now so i guess i need to remove the entire assemply and clena and lube. im just worried ill never get things back together, ive heard our windows are a pain to work on.
and then hopefully the relay idea will put them over the top!

How did that relay work out on your power windows. I hear cleaining up the tracks and what not work wonders but haven't gotten to it myself. A friend of mine replaced his Motors but his windows are still just as slow.. Maybe it is just a cleaning of the tracks needed...

well i never got around to messing with them much more than a good cleaning and some experimentation....its on the interior to do list, the motor comes first
BUT what i did find was all new wiring is what mine needs most. i lubed the tracks very well but didnt get near the result i wanted. so i ran a power wire straight from the battery to my window switches (they now also work without a key obviously) bypassing the factory ignition-switched wiring. i found this made my windows operate to 99% of how they SHOULD be.
this also rules out bad switches since such an improvement was noticed but i still retain the stock wiring from the switches to the window motors themselves.
every situation is different but ALL new wiring for the circuit, a good cleaning, and relays would benefit any thirdgen window.
