Experience\Help requested for 89 t-top GM retrofit weatherstrip seal kit

The question I have is regarding the retrofit T-top weather strip kit 10164133.

I have seen some posts that warn about using this retrofit fix from GM (NEW T-TOP WEATHERSTRIPS WITH DRAIN PROVISIONS AT BUTT JOINT #91-10-37 ) as it may lead to problems depending on the application it is used on, type of t-tops etc.

Dont mind paying the cash, just want to make the right choice.

Any knowledge\experience regarding problems\gotchas with this (89 Formula) application would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I saw an old post regarding a TSB 91-319-10 for the manner in which sealant is to be applied correctly( I think this is for the t-bar weatherstrip bracket that collects water and rots in many cases) but there were no details\diagrams. Anyone know about this?

Car is in pieces now getting ready for paint.
I have already decided to go with the GM seals but was hoping for some insight so I can get it right the first time.

Regards,

Chickenhawk

I bought that kit so I'm using it no matter what, but I'm interested in the answers to your questions, so I'm giving you a bump.

There should be no problems with using it.

It's more a revision then retofit I would say. The plastic awning is also part of the kit. Just an improvement. The chassis of the car didn't change over the 10 yr run.. the only tops that were differnet in size/overall design were the C&C.

The only problem.. if you car has hidden rust in the corners.. the water that would be leaking in your lap from the joints will now be running down the insides of your w/strip and draining down the door jambs... with the rest of the water that normally get there anways.

Fit is not a problem at all... I put in on my '87 w/zero hassle. Follow the instructions and you should be golden.

The latches used were not part of the seal channels on the car or the tops.

Just my babbling opinion though..

Thanks deadbird for the words of confidence from your experience. It seemed far fetched that the latch difference would have any bearing but you never know so it never hurts to ask.

One last question regarding your response, and forgive me if it is something blatently obvious but what is C&C?

Thanks again.

It's not obvious unless you know these cars inside & out.. I didn't know myself when I had them on my 84 camaro untill I came across a few posts via searching that my tops weren't OEM. I just assumed it was an 84-prior top.

C&C is 'Cars&Concepts'. The biggest marker in visually seeing them is the added trim piece along the roof cutline where the tops were put in. They also offered a t-top/sunroof combo.. you can see the trim piece and sunroof option in this pic...

(not mine just in case...)...
