Cup Holders
I'd like to see some pictures of cup holders that people have come up with. I've seen the stock cup holders that came in the later years, but I've only come up with one decent spot with a cheap auto parts store cup holder.

Here's the best idea I've seen for cupholders in a thirdgen Camaro..

This picture is a little fuzzy b/c I enlarged it to show up close. I'll try to get some better pics later. This cupholder (with my stereo remote in it) is from boater's world (>$2.00) and fits into the console perfectly (no clearance problems underneath). The only disadvantage is that it only holds 12oz cans (or the new 8oz or 1/2 liter bottles i've seen), but it's better than nothing at all! It really serves its purpose as a catch-all since there is such limited storage in 3rd gens (no dash gloveboxes)

No offense guys, but there was a time when driving meant just that, driving. It's only since the early 90s that cars started coming with a cup holder. Since that time, not only do people drink in the car, they eat, read the paper, put on make-up, talk on the cell phone and, in some cases, watch TV. I'm a firm believer that driving requires certain amounts of attention and the fewer distractions, the better.
I'm not saying that I don't drink in my cars, but without the cupholder, it makes it an easier decision to just drive. How far do most people drive that they can't have a drink before they leave and then get another drink when they arrive? End of rant and back to the original topic.
82firebird, does that hold cans only or will a regular sized drink fit?

I just improvise and wedge it between my hip and the console, works just fine for me. Even the biggie drinks from wendy's. It's not like it is there for very long anyway, atleast for me. Larry.

Nor do I - even my fiance is banned - but the big HOWEVER is that I often go on long road trips and you just gotta have a soda along the way. I just choose to only drink stuff with a screw-on cap - then there are no worried as long as the cap is on tight......
And you could definetly put me more in Scott's camp - way do dang many distractions made possibly by technology and the conveniences of newer cars. I have XM in my Focus and it alone can become a big distraction - but I'll never get rid of it, goes back to the long trips - sure is nice for the long drive.
Anyway, Sorry I'm not more helpful for the thread regarding posting a pic of a cup holder. If I had a pic of my hand, I'd post it

I find a cup between the legs more distracting than in a cup holder. If I'm on my way out the door and I want a can of soda I'm not going to open one, drink a bit, throw it away, drive to wherever, then get another can.

I dont have a picture, but I used one of those cheapy cup holders like in the original post.
I cut off the part that goes up past where the cupholder part is. Then I screwed it into the side of the console on the passanger side.
You know where the little heater vent is on the side of the console, thats where it is.
Its out of the way, in reach of the driver, and was easy as pie to do.
I'll take a picture later

definitly inbetween the legs is very distracting infact i almost crash sometimes when i buy a large drink In my grand am it gets caught on the steeringwheel and i cant turn...haha
and as far as having a cupholder it is nice
espiecally i use it on saturdays/fridays at work since thats the only day my iroc is driven i have to go get food...well its difficult and fast food cup carriers suck...and they slide around the car....
and whats more distracting when driving being dehydrated and thinking about a cold one hehe....or having a cold one
on the other hand i knew a dude who wrecked once for drinking a soda he had a 12oz can tried to take the last sip you kno where you tilt your head back and can up well of course he wsant paying attention and wrecked haha

Here is a better shot of the console out of the car with the cupholder installed. This pic also shows the power outlet I added, both during the interior restoration...

That is a good spot for a cup holder. It looks clean, like something that might have come stock. Great idea!

What if you put two holders through the top of the glovebox like the kind CoolcamaroZ28 did in his console?

Yeah those look just like what are in both my 91's. My GTA and my Formula.
Should be standard in all 91-92 cars, I know in the bird, not sure about Camaro but I think so there as well.
My other dumb car just has them useless pockets. If it wasnt a TTA I'd throw it away, not lol

Hello All
I like the cup holder in the ashtray spot except it will only hold small cans and drinks.
I don't like the 1-cup holder in the center console because it will get in the way of shifting and there is only 1.
I like the 1 on the door that opens and closes, except that it too only holds small drinks.
I came up with this design. It's started off as a cup holder from Pep Boys for a $2.00.
I cut it down added some Velcro to hold the drinks more securely.
I then used Pop Rivets to attach it to the side of the center console near the vents.
Here are some pictures:

I am not a big fan of the between the legs cup holder, them drinks are just to cold for comfort. I just get a screw on cap dring and set it on my side by the seat belt, or of course make the passanger hold my drink lol.

Yeah guys! When ever I am on my why out of work, I always grab a pop, and start my venture home. I usually just set it where my ashtray is, and this influences my to drive safe and smooth.
I have done the "between the legs" thing, and it is okay, but is still lame. Ringo234, I like what you have going on there since I use my ash tray when it is raining hard.
Me, the driver, usually gets to hold TWO drinks, because my girl wears only skirts and dresses, and it doesn't work out well for her. The things we guys do for our woman.

Can't speak on the Camaro's, but the little area between the e-brake handle and the console on my GTA works out great for me, I've put 20oz and 24oz bottles there laying on their side and they stay pretty much there.
