Care to explain? Even if you had a split differential, you would have 8, and not 6. How can you work over another 2 gears?
I have never seen, read, or heard about this, and I am 99% sure it is impossible, but I don't claim to know everything.
Tell me what you did. On a side note, have you ever seen a 6 speed auto shifter, besides on newer tip-tronic transmissions.

To be honest I dont know, the previuos owner had the work done at a local shop, but I know hes telling the truth because Ive counted the number of shifts. I have seen other auto trans worked out to a 6 spd, and you can order them new. There was one on an episode of Horse Power TV on spike. And I dont think the previuos owner knew what was doen either, becuase he wasnt very informative when he sold the car, everyhting he had done he had it done at a shop.

I heard something simlar years ago. I was told that the computer drops the RPM down to highway mode at a very high speed, usually not reached by normal driving. He said that with a custom programmed chip, you can drop the highway mode shift points to a lower, more reasonable level. The guy that told me about this also said he was getting about 27 mpg out of his 350 when highway driving!

The guy had a hypertech chip in it, I replaced it because it sucked, and put in another(see sig). Didnt change the transmission except firmer shifts better down shifting, the car will shift into 6th even at 50mph at like 1000rpm, I do get about 25mpg on the highway at 85mph and 2000rpm. But still horrible city, about 15mpg.

Engine: lt1 intaked 355 makin 277 on 25 psi of fuel pressure and stock timing :)
Transmission: A4 stock... that moved a mobile dyno a foot shifting into 2nd :)
i am sorry i think i am gonna call bs but hell i can feel my car "shift" 5 times.... but its not a 5 speed... i belive what he is thinking is a shift is actually the converter lock up..... i know i can tell when it locks up in 3rd.... drops about 400 rpm i belive... and hell i can hit 135 in 3rd .... but i honestly dont belive this is possiable unless the whole tranny was reconfigured with diff internals and a diff valve body... i can change a ie gear ratio of a tranny but not how many gears it has....

I called fastchip.com today and asked them about this. They said that they are unaware of any programming that allows the RPMs to drop considerably more at high speeds. They said that I might get better gas milage out of my car by using a better program than factory by using more efficient settings, but it would only show about 14hp at the wheels and maybe increase mileage minimally.

Im just relaying what the previous owner claimed and what ive seen with my own eyes, Im not talking about feeling it, I can see each shift on my tach. Maybe it was just the torqu converter and the previous owner is full of it. I do know that there are companies that take a transmission and add more gears, if you watch Horsepower TV you can see an example of this in one of their episodes, they put a 6spd automatic in a project car. There are also overdrive devices that you can add onto the back of the transmission to give it an overdrive gear, the only way to determine what the guy did to the transmission is to tear it apart, which will never happen unless I FUBAR it. If I see the guy again Ill ask him about it.

i would belive that they are adding "gears" to some trannys but not a 700r4... and when my converter locks up on 3rd it feels like a shift and i can see an rpm change on the tach as well.. so i really doubt u have a tranny with 6 speeds and the device that u install on the back of the tranny to "split" the gears or add an over drive to every gear is also like 2500 bucks
