I had the same problem, I think I could see into the area where my locking comparment was in the rear oposite the spare tire compartment. All we did was pretty much wire wheel, cut, wire wheel again, and weld up some metal. If you want I have a bunch of pictures of the job but the welds and everything are covered in undercoating.

Personally....I'd run to a corner....huddle up into the fetal position and cry for about 10-15 minutes....then I'd go back out, look at it again and start working on it!

Honestly I dont think it is a big deal at all, if you think that is bad you should have seen all the areas we had to fix. Im talking about recreating the fender, fender lip, anywhere the gfx pieces were, I could also see the ground through the spare tire compartment now that I think about it, and I had to recreate the passenger side floor panels, one good kick would have gone through.

i just fixed the same thing a couple weeks ago, i still say the wheel wells is one of the suckiest places to work on
i had a rough time making a peice of metal to fit the shape i cut
and after all is said and done, the hole is gone but i know the rust isnt, heh.. its just in too many places I cant really get to
