If you want to change only the decklid, you're going to have to re-seal it. It may be easier for you just to put on the entire hatch.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. The 'deck plate' will fit either hatch. The hatch will fit on either car. If you want to put one hatch onto the other, they'll swap.

I'll tell you this, I tried to swap the decklids from my old hatch that I broke the glass on with another one that had a bent decklid but good glass. in the end I just had my friend fix the bent decklid since it seemed like we'd break the glass trying to seperate them.

I had no problems separating mine. Just score the seal thats already there and lift up on the decklid. Use a little patience and it'll come right off.

neat
any re-glueing re aligning tips ?
i want to make sure i align the deck plate to the quarter panels correctly, unlike how it is currently, its all out of whack after someoen replaced the glass in it once, which is why i am replacing entire hatch assembly from an 87 maro and needing to swap deck plates
maybe i dont need to ? maybe i should just remove and realign the 82 original one then ?
thanks

how hard is it to remove/realign/reseal the deck lid? im going to be painting my car soon, and if it is easier to do that to the decklid than to mask off the hatch......

There's a tech article on the main page all about aligning the hatch. It's not that hard at all, and if you have a decklid that sticks out past the rear of the car, its VERY worth-while.
The only real tricks I have to resealing the decklid to the glass would be to lay down a nice thick bead. I used clear silicon just incase some would have oozed out the crack. Let the seal dry for a day or so and pour some water on there. Open your hatch; if its dry, pat yourself on the back. If its wet, add more silicon!

ok good info thanks ![Big Grin](https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
anyoen have link to the article on this one ?
i need to do this soon
either re align the existing hatch plate or swap decks and swap decks
i dunno which glass i like better but i also believe that the 82 glass frame is coming apart off from around the glass edge is another reason why i yanked this nice 87 maro hatch assembly for the 82, and i have no idea how to get the metal back tight against the glass edge, it just wont stay put, the glass was busted out years ago and my aunt had it replaced and whoever did it obviously doest know these cars or didnt care, cuz its just not right,
what would you do if it were your car
and yeah one corner of the deck plate sticks out past end of car quarters
just like i see on like every other third gen f body,
what do you think ?
hmm
thanks
