4th Gen interior swap into 2nd gen....

Hey Everyone,
A friend of mine has a 78 Z28. I know that the 4th gen interior fits into our 3rd gens..... But does anyone know if a 4th gen interior will bolt into a 2nd gen as easy as it does into a 3rd gen?

Thanks in Advance,
Mark B

2nd gen doesn't look like it would fit a 3rd gen, a 4th gen fits a 3rd gen, so I'm guessing 4th gen won't fit a 2nd gen. Good luck though, although its gonna look ridiculous.

I know this board is 3rd gen realated... I spend more time on this board than I spend sleeping. But I thought that someone would be able to help me, rather than rant about the rules.

Thanks to the people that did try to help.

There was an early 2nd gen Firebird at the TA nats and Tip City cruise last year that had a 4th gen dash, console, seats, and engine/trans. I'm not sure what he had to do to get it in there, but it has been done. Redraif might have pics...I'll check.

JerseyMark,
The 4th gen seats will fit, but not as easily as in a third gen. The mounting brackets will have to be custom fit. It is not hard to do, you just have to have some basic mechanical skills and tools. The size is not a problem they actually look pretty good.

Buddy of mine had 4th gen front seats in his 79 Z28, but I'd also recommend checking out nastyz28.com my friend is a mod or admin over there and I'm sure they can help you out.

i have a picture of this car in 1 of my magazines, it has an LS1 in it, but the engine bay doesn't look too good.

I've seen 3rd gen stuff in a 1st gen, but 4th in a 2nd, not yet.

It can be done. Although not third gen related, it sounded interesting so I checked out nastyz28.com and searched the interior restoration section for '4th gen.' Plenty of results came up. Good luck.

Wow.. I was looking at a couple of pics of that on the second gen board.

Looks amazing. The style of a second gen with the refinement of a 4th gen interior. That sounds like a winner in my book. Throw an LS1 under the hood and the world will be better for all.

Spent some time talking to the owner of that car at the nats last year. The conversion was more than just an engine & 4th gen interior. He actually grafted the entire front of the 4th gen to the 2nd gen body shell. Basically from the dash/firewall forward is all 4th gen except for the external sheetmetal. Look closely at the firewall & inner fender wells in redraif's pics and you can see the differences from the original 2nd gen.

Sounds exactly like what Fatal88 did to his thirdgen.

I guess if you want it to be right, thats the way to go no matter what.

Wow thats for the info! Have to put that tidbit on the site! I was looking for the owner at Tipp City, but I remember we only found his son. Did not get much info at all from him!
