One yes or no paint Question ?

So im getting ready to do some prep, but i just read a little somthing that caught me off guard....

Okay Orig paint on the car, factory clear peel issue, no big niks or anything......i read that i can "scuff sand" the car and i dont need to prime it, being as the factory primer is already there, i read i just need to take serious cleaning measures before scuff sanding..... and go over the car with a assortment of grits.....is that true ?

Thanks

Oh P.S. One more thing i want the final answer on prepping the urathane..... Sand or Chemical ?

Sorry that was 2 questions........

That's what I did and it worked great. I'm sure some people out there will tell you not too, but depending on how much time you want to invest in it, it may be worth just going at the original primer.

The more i read the more it seems to make sense to scuff sand with a certain grit, and prime with "self etching primer" as i will be doing one panel at a time, and possibly may have to drive it a little till im totally done.....

you can sand down to a good base and prime and paint from there. no need to go for the primer. that is as long as there are no chipps or pealing paint.

you do not need an etching primer unless your going to bare metal, you will need a highbuild 2k primer to wet sand and get nice n smooth before your base paint.

you must clean the car real well with dawn dish washing liquid to get off all wax and oils dirt ect. this stuff will sand down into the paint as your sanding and then you will have adhesion problmes.

driving in primer is not a good idea as it will require you to redo your work, if the primer gets wet or oily or dirty you need to clean and do all the step again or risk losing your paint job.

you can do your sanding and drive it, i would plan a nice week vacation when ready to prime, prime car one day wet sand next day shoot base and clear next day and then wet sand and buff the next day, and that leaves you a couple days to sit back and enjoy the job.
