fiberglass decklid?
Does anyone know if there is a fibeglass decklid for sale anywhere? I imagine it would be cheaper than a $500+ notchback. With the amount of rusted decklids, I figured I could find such a part easily.

why would you want a fiberglass decklid? if it's for weight savings how much weight are you really gonna save? the reason why a notch saves a lot of weight is not because of the metal decklid, it's that enourmous piece of glass.

I want fiberglass because it doesn't rust like every other piece on my car. I would be retaining the stock glass. I just want to replace the metal part, not the entire hatch.
I guess any sort of aftermarket decklid would be acceptable, but all I can find are a few beat up ones on eBay.
I did find a "trunk lid, pin-on style" for $125 at www.hotrodssuperstore.com, but I have no idea what it looks like or how it "pins on". Doesn't sound like what I'm after.

I'm sure a stock metal decklid is at least 35lbs... they weigh a ton. I'm not saying the glass isn't heavy (it is), but its a lot cheaper and easier than trying to find a lexan hatch glass.

Thanks for the links!
Looks like a good deal of work not incuding the sanding and painting. Maybe I should wait for a good metal one to come up on eBay. I really don't want pins to hold my hatch down. This is for a daily driver too so weight isn't exactly a concern. It's good to know hat there is a fiberglass one if I get the cash for it.

I actually was going to buy a fiberglass decklid and fiberglass aero spoiler and swap to a manual rear hatch assembly. just personal preference. and weight reduction also, but i want to chuck the pull down for reliability reasons.
