Door+Hinge+Fender Problems

Hey I'm still trying to get my new 91-92 fenders installed on my 88 iroc. I believe the problem is that the doors are drooping so much that its rubbing up against the bottom half of the fenders and leaving a gap on the upper half. I’m about to replace the upper and lower hinge bolts (the doors can move up and down when I force them to) Can anyone tell me of a place that sells cheaper upper door bolts besides TDS and Hawks? If not, should I get the greasable ones or the stock replacement ones? Also has anyone had any luck with the "E-Z Store Door Alignment Tool" from TDS? It looks easy enough.

Are you sure you need to replace the upper hinge bolts? 90% of the time the main reason doors sag is the lower hinge pin bushing going bad. The fix kit can be bought on EBAY for $16.00. Do a search on this site for the tech article on how to put them in. When it comes to compressing the spring, get a spring compressor, it's a handtool that attached to both ends of the spring and then compresses it with a socket wrench. SOOOO much easier than the bayling wire method. My door could move 2"-3" up and down before I fixed them last week. Didn't even have to adjust anything.

See thats what i thought at first too, but when i took off my drivers side door, i could actually move the top hinge with my hand up and down, is it suppose to be able to do that?

nope.. but there are replacements.

They sell upper pin replacements. Although very expensive for a nut and bolt, they do the job well.

I just replaced both hinges on my 82. Scored them on ebay real cheap. If your fenders are off the car it is real easy to line the door back up. I took the door and put it back on the car in the closed posistion and bolted the door back on. It lines up perfectly and swings like new. Took all of 6 minutes to get the door perfect.

It really isn't hard to do. I did it on my Camaro, I am going to have to do it this summer on my GTA. Drive your car to dubuque and we can do it.

EDIT: I have the door alignment tool from TDS as well as the door spring tool. They make the job a lot easier.

The Top hinges are a PITA to do without the fenders off. The lower ones are tolerable but it would just be easier to do it with them off. Aligning the door isnt too bad, just takes 2 people to do it right.

You don't have to remove the fenders to repair the upper door hinges using the kit I sell. You only have to move the door back slightly to expose the bushings. Here, my description of the process in this other thread currently running will explain the steps better:

Aligning the door is a one person job using the EZ Store door alignment tool.
