Steering column problem

Yo guys, please help me out here. I have an 88 IROC and very recently, the steering wheel seemed loose and wobbly. Today I looked into it and it's the steering column, looks like it's in the tilt mechanism. The bracket holding the column to the dash is tight, and the wheel itself is tight. All the looseness seems to be about a foot down from the wheel, where the tilt is.

Can this be fixed? Do I need to go to the JY for a new column? Help!

You need to tighten your tilt column torx bolts. Their in there kinda deep but it's totally do'able in an afternood. Do a search and find the tech article, it has step by step directions and pictures also.

Thanks, I found the article. But didn't see any pics or links to pics. Am I missing something? Also, it looks rather involved and looks to require some special tools that I don't have. Maybe I'll have to let a body shop handle this for me.

It can be difficult, but I did it so it can't be that bad. Search outside of Thirdgen for the illustrated version tech article. I have it downloaded on my computer but I can't get it to load here.
