Anyone have the hatch portion of a 3-piece spoiler on a bird?
I have no spoiler on my car as it is. I took the foam aerowring off and have been considering other options. I've wanted a tinted hatch for a while, and I have access to two tinted hatches with the 3-piece RS spoiler. I think it may look kinda cool if I put one of those on my car without the side pieces (obviously, they wouldn't fit with my headlights without customizing).
Anyone have a pic of a bird with one of those spoilers on them?

i say go for it , you will just have to make side pieces of modify the stock ones so they look cool . I was actually thinkin about doing it but i get my mse wing , but i was gonna use the 5 inch spoiler and then mod the sides of it so they didnt look funny on a trans am .

I've alway thought that would work really well. I don't like any wings on birds except for that ultra rare/expensive Mecham one. But the 3 piece isn't really a wing, rather a lip. I say go for it.

Well, I may have to go pick that up tomorrow then and see what I can do with it.
I think it would be really mean looking with a cowl hood, but I'm not a big fan of them, so the power bulge may do.

i've always thought about doing it myself. it would look like the 78 trans ams did...i was thinking about doing a 3rd gen with the same paint and graphics as the smoky and the bandit car...just an idea.

It'd be cool but none of the kids my age (17) would give it any credit. Hell, I talked to one kid who was getting a smokey and the bandit edition 2nd gen (was the 78? 79?) for $1500 and he was talking about getting it repainted NEON GREEN!
I really wanted to smack the kid. That was before I had this TA, I told him I'd pay him $2000 for it if he bought it for $1500 and he turned that down. I just don't understand why some people have to ruin nice cars like that.
Either way, yes, the reason I want the 3-piece look on my TA is because it reminds me of the 70s TAs. I'm debating on which fiberglass hood to get. I have to make up my mind within about a month or so because I'm going to get my car painted (gloss black, like original/current color). Either a flat hood and put a screaming chicken on it, a power bulge hood, or a 4" cowl hood. The 4" cowl hood would look pretty good with the spoiler I think, but it'd be hard to drive with as a DD (though I am trying to relieve the car of that job). Power bulge is bad *** looking but I wouldn't be able to put the bird on it...if that's the way I end up wanting to go.

i'd make that kid respect the T/A! lol. there was a kid that went to the high school i went to that was barely 15 years old and got a 68 camaro ss that was completely restored...red with black race stripes. he ended up wrapping it around a tree...kids don't diserve cars like that without the responsibility they need. anyways, in responce to the 70's trans ams, nolanr0413 posted this pic on a thread i found while searching for power bulge. i have the bulge and was thinking about putting the bird on the back hatch glass...just to change it up.

Picked it up and crappily painted it. It'll go on my car tomorrow so I can try to get pics. If not tomorrow, I'll have some Saturday for sure. I don't have the side pieces yet, just the hatch portion.

Hmm.. I've got one of the 3-piece spoilers I took off a Camaro that came in the yard a few years back. I'll have to see what I can mock up.

It shouldn't be *that* hard to make the side pieces fit too. Like I said I haven't decided if I'm going to do teh sides yet. I may just keep the hatch section. I'll have to see how it looks on the car tomorrow.

Well, see, the problem is that Camaro's are more narrow in teh rear than firebird's, so if you did get it to fit right, you would have some wierd gaps. Also, the quarter panels have more slope on a Camaro than they do on a Firebird. Finally, the side pieces are slanted back to reveal the slanted sides of hte taillights on a Camaro.
I really dont think it would work well.

So far I have only used the centerpiece. If I do decide to use the side pieces, I'd obviously have to do some work on them, as I mentioned.
The hatch it on. Had the old one unbolted and the new one bolted up in under 20min. It doesn't fit exactly perfect though as of right now so I'll have to look into things a little bit. It may just need to be re-adjusted per the tech article. I don't think the hatch is any narrower or curved any differently than my stock one. The only differences are in the exteriors of the fenders.
But I do have to say, I think the car looks pretty good with the spoiler in place. If the weather is decent I'll get some pics tomorrow, I was pretty busy today.

Do a search for my name give or take a year or 2 ago and you'll be able to find pics of my 85 bird with the center section on it. You could always get the hawks 5" and just install the center portion, that would look sick but for 300 bucks i wouldnt get it to install one part of it.
The side pieces wont come close to fitting, i wouldnt even bother trying to get them to fit, trust me i tried

Here's a temporary host til I figure out which pics I like to put up on Cardomain. Probably end up being none of them because my car is in such dire need of a washing, lol.

Gimme
I was actually considering making extensions like that instead of bolting them to the fenders. Considered taking the sides of a 3-piece and seeing if I were to use those as a base to make a new mold what I could do to make it look decent when bolted to the center section.

Yeah probably wouldn't be hard to add extensions like stated earlier. Would have been a lot faster than looking for a Z20... 2 years daily on ebay and on TGO classifieds searching for the package.

I'd also appreicate some pics. Especially if you could get one or two of how the front spats run near the splash guards.
If you want send me an email with all pictures attached and I'll place them in my webspace so we'll all have access to them.

The Z20 Special Appearance Package Spoiler is the one I have posted. Also, OUTATIME GTA has posted pics. Like I said years of searching daily on eBay and on the classifieds and I finally managed to find a partial package. I'm just lucky I use to have a lot of spare time I guess.
The one bj350hp has posted is like a center section off of a Camaro, course like he said it's definitely looks larger than the OEM 3 piece.
Don't worry guys I'll get around to the spoiler eventually. I'm still debating if I'm up to making a 3 piece mold for it. I just have so many projects on going I don't even have the time for 1/2 of them. I've made various molds before, but have decided to start with a smaller project. I've had this started for awhile now, but have switched to heater boxes and working on my solid roller SBC in the spare time. Basically the molds need a lot of cleaning up, but they look like they should work nicely.
Once done I should beable to make myself replica fiberglass rear spats (fender flares). The Z20 spats are a poly-urethane type and are only held on by 4 or 5 screws. Since I'll will be spending a lot of time with the car parked out on campus unattended I didn't want to take the chance of someone running away with my originals with no way of making more. Plus, I needed something I would work with and bondo to fit the front end right anyways to make another mold for it.
