Usefull NFO: 4th Gen center console

Just a quick note : You may not have to Smash the center tunnel down to get your 4th gen center console to work with the third gen shift assembly. What I have found is that if you cut the "Stop" off of the metal shifter assembly (the one that keeps it from going past park in the forward direction) and grind a bit of plastic off of the underside of the automatic shift plate that fits in the console, the entire fourth gen console will fit.

ALSO note: The thirdgen shifter sits almost perfectly flat (2 or 3 degrees off of a perfect horizontal) A fourth gen sits around 10 degrees off. so you may need to use washers as spacers to get the shifter to line up as indicated on the console plate and not "RAM INTO" park or first.

I found this works on the 4th gen with one cup holder and no lighter in it.

If your looking for something to do with the window and hatch switches get a overhead center console (The one with the number tumblers that serve no purpose) and put the switches in the hole where the number tumblers are.

Just some thoughts.

did you install the automatic 4th gen console? that might be why it didn't clear the shifter assembly. there have been many posts on which type and model 4th gen console that is a direct fit. 99% of them are manual consoles.

yeah it is the automatic console. I read all the posts on the swap and decided to give it a try, And I have to say it fits really well, It took some work but it was well worth it.

That style 4th gen Camaro console looks 1000% better next to that 3rd gen Radio pod than any of the later style consoles. It seems to match the angles a lot better. The others are too round for a Camaro.
