question on steering wheel compatibility between different years

I found an NOS steering wheel, Gm part # 7983240. Does anybody know if the splines on the steering columns are different from year to year, or will any of the thirdgen steering wheels mount to my 85 column? If anybody has a way to tell me exactly what this part number is for, I'd appreciate it, as I can't find any info. There is also a chance this might be out of a Fiero; would this still work if this was the case?

Thanks,
Eric

Pretty sure it's the same. We had a 1992 bird wheel on an 85 camaro column with no issues. The same wheel is on an 88 column now.

from what ive experienced all our columns from 82-92 are the same. they have the same splines so all wheels interchange. not to sure about 4thgens tho i had to grind a grrove on my 4thgen wheel to get it to fit. any thirdgen wheel should fit any thirdgen column

I have an 84-ish wheel on my 91..no problems at all. That is till the airbag clockspring melted and caught on fire. Oops.
