brake in belt pads??

i painted my camaro black so i had to get black chevy seat belt pads to match, anyway a friend gave me my old red ones and they are so nice and worked in, they make a huge diffrence in comfort and looks. but these new ones suck! they are really stiff, how do i get them worked in nice and flexable? im thinking i need to wash it or something. anyone else deal with this? any ideas?
