Is this just my car...?

Ok, here in good old Ohio its like 5 degrees outside.. so I have noticed that my car side windows are not creating a seal with the roof weatherstripping... hell the doors themselves are not closing properly and they did before the dang frigid temperatures hit us. I never noticed anything like this while the temps were above freezing... I know that plastic and all that shrinks and expands but what in the world is causing my doors to not shut right or the windows to not line up right... this is bothering me something fierce because I haven't had any problems like this before... if anyone has any suggestions or similar stories feel free to post them... please!

My 88 IROC is doing that. I live in Louisville, Kentucky where it is very cold. My doors have always been hard to shut and the windows don't always make a tight seal at the T-Tops.

There are several adjustments that I could make but I'm waiting for a breakin the weather.

The bushings on my doors are worn out and I've replaced them with oversized ones. The hinge on the door itself came welded from the factory. I haven't figured out exactly what to do on that.

There are inside adjustments that can be made when the kick panels are removed but the last time I did that it took two people.

The locking/closing mechanism on the door itself could need to be lubricated and/or replaced. The striker could also need to be aligned.

I've had my IROC for 11 years and I've always had problems with my doors and the way they close and seal. I was told that it's the weight of the doors and I can definitely believe it.

I live here in louisville also and have the same problems. I spray a little WD40 on a dry cloth and wipe the weatherstipping and it seems to keep the wind noise down and keep the doors from sticking. I also spray it on the door hinges. Also if your weatherstripping is bad you may start thinking about replacing it.

Try some graphite lubricant. You can get it at any auto parts store. Just put some inside the actual lock mechanism (where the key goes into), and trying locking and unlocking it a couple of times and see if it gets any better.

I am going to try and put the dry silicone on my weatherstripping... it definitely needs replaced, but I don't have the money to get that stuff, its too damn expensive unfortunately even though its a necessary evil... anyway no offense 305q_ta86, but I sure am glad I don't live in Canada right now, I wouldn't be able to survive that cold ... and as for moving down south, I have to wait till I graduate from Wright State

87CIZ don't feel too bad about climbing in from the hatch, I had to do it the other day and just as I was about half-way in, a couple attractive girlies drove by in a VW Bug and laughed, talk about being embarrassed ... C'est lie vie

Car: firebird '89
Engine: 305 tbi
Transmission: it works I'm happy
my doors have frozen shut and I've had to pull on the door handles so it felt it would snap.
My passenger door froze shut so hard I had to punch it open from the inside. I'd thought I'd fixed that little problem till 1o yards down the road my door flung open in a bouncing jarring kinda a way. hmmm I thought and just looped the seatbelt through the armrest and drove home..trying to not swear at the 'bird. (don't want to send bad energy to it )
To cold to mess with on that day. I pulled back the panel played with the handle to lock rod..wd40 and then to be sure WD 40 again. the door shut, didn't swing open and I've not opened it for a week and will avoid doing so.
If my doors freeze shut I'm screwed. My key only fits the passenger door ..so I can't crawl in through the boot, can't open that door/close it. Can't drive the car.
