Talk about time consuming. Did you shoot the black first then use a brush or did you dimple first then use sticker dots for the black?

I'm with Karps, I loved the plain simple silver, but it isn't my car now is it.

Good job. If you can post up some close ups.

Thanks for the comments, good or bad.; and keep um comming. I want to know what you like/dislike about the car. This car (not just firewall) is going to catch your eye (good or bad), that is the way I have planned it. Once everything is all together, the paint job will make more sense.

And to answer some questions: this theme is going to be carried through elsewhere on the car. As for how this effect was done, it is all painted and laid out by hand black over silver, then the rivits and highlights. Yes it took a lot of time (this is no motor cycle gas tank and fender).

Nice N8. Do you plan on having it finished by Memorial day? There is a big gathering of thirdgens in Crete IL that you should check out. I'd love to see whats been done in person.

Its called Thirdgenfest, but it used to go by the name Memorial Day Bash..

Check it out, around March more information will be available on the gathering boards.

you had me until you did the artwork.... different though which is always nice to see on someone else's car.

you were going in a great direction but that bay puts you borderline...... have to wait til it's done to make a decision. lots of time and effort all the same and you can't knock that.

eh - I'm not a big fan. It's too busy in a negative way. Props for originality though.

I guess I’m with everyone else here… I liked it better clean looking. I can appreciate the work, but those paint jobs always give me a “I’m going to do this just because I can” feeling which sorta bugs me. It seems like a lot of mustang race cars are going that way recently. There was a recent issue of MM&FF that had at least 3 cars and a feature car in it that had that done on some part, the feature had the whole outside done to look like that.

There have been a few cars over the years that have been done like that that I’ve liked, but probably the last was the tri-five chevy with the Allison V16 in it that was done like that + military insignia to look sorta like a P51 mustang…, and that was a case of “this thing is total excess, so it fits” thing

Nice job! All that grinding and smoothing on the engine bay area was a lot of work but I love the smoothed out look... no way I'd consider painting my car either, without paying that kind of attention to detail. Can't wait to see the car when it's done.
