momo hub adapter with factory airbag installtion
I recently purchased a momo wheel and hub adapter for my '91 which was originally equipped with an airbag.
At first it was a very tight fit -- and while driving the hub would rub the plastic on the column, which caused all sorts of problems. Difficult to turn, the wheel wouldn't center itself after a turning, almost like no power steering at all. Reminded me of a friends '68.
I'd read horror stories (to me anyway) about people having to trim an inch of plastic from the steering column away jsut so it would fit properly.
I was not about to do that. Instead I took the hub off and turned it on a lathe. Removed about 1/2" ? Basically flush with the inner surface as you see in the pic. Whalla ! perfect fit -- plenty of threads to grab, and just as smooth turning as stock.
Sorry I didn't take any before pics -- but if you have one it should be clear enough.

At last someone who's had the same problem as me, the guy i bought the adapter from insists it should fit but you & i know it dont!
Did they enlarge the housing to accommodate the airbag mechanism maybe?
Does no one make an adapter that actually fits?

Techincially, I suppose yes, it does fit - I drove around and tested it after all . . . but no, to my knowledge no company makes one that fits and looks stock.
I really recommend getting the momo hub turned - it took a machinist maybe 5 mins on a lathe and cost about 20 bux for a fit and finish second to none.
good luck. I get many compliments on the wheel now.
