hood won't open
Hey all,
I have had this problem whre my hood won't open after I pull the hood release from inside the car. you hear the mechanism working but the hood doesn't pop open. I noticed that if you pull on it from the side and hit the center of the hood it pops open. Any advice on how I can fix this so I don't have to resort to violence everytime I need to re-fill my windshield washer fluid. Thanks

oil the mechanism really well and either replace the spring on the latch on the hood or do as many many others do and simply stretch the spring out a little bit to make it longer and make it pop up easier ...

i've got the same problem as you there.
would stretching the spring make a gap between the hood and the front clip?

no it wont ..only thing that will do that is if you adjust the rubber bump stops on the sides of the header panel

I had the same problem when I bought my car. It felt really foolish walking back and forth between the front of the car and putting my arm through the window opening to pull the release lever 7-8 times before I could actually open it!
When I got my hood open (the usual GM soft punch technique a little bit upwards of where the latch is located), I cleaned the latch mechanism with WD-40. Then I applied some light grease to it. I have never had any problem again, and now my hood pops open as soon as I pull the release lever.
Every time I clean my engine, I do the same cleaning and lubing procedure, just in case, and to remove accumulated dirt.
