Door panel differnce in Camaros??????

Is there a differnce between the top door trim , the piece that is attached to the door panel, between any year camaros? I bought a used one a couple years back to replace the one on my car which was craked into 3 pieces and am just gettting aroung to installing it now. When I first removed it I compared it to the used one I bought and they both looked exactly alike. Now I can't get the good one on. Right length, the tabs all line up and snap into place but the front that hangs over the door panel will not seat properly. Sits too high and wont pull over and cover the holes where it was originally attached to the door panel. Those holes it attaches to on the door panel have been ripped away so its not like they are stoppping it from going down. So my only guess is there was a differnce between the years and I got the wrong one?
