Seat rail swapping?

i recently bought a pair of 4thgen ebony leather front seats, unfortunatly they don't fit because they are made for a convertible. FORTUNATLY my dad owns a convertible firebird with seats that aren't in great condition. now i am having major trouble finding another pair of EBONY leather seats. my question is...

If i buy another pair of pwr/lumbar seats in charcoal or grey (the only colors i can seem to findnow) will i be able to swap the convertible rails to the normal seats, so in the end i have my black seats and my dad has the charcoal in his convertible?

don't see why not. Why not swap out ur factory seats and swap the rails to the conv. seats you purchased already. Then you'd have ur ebony leather's, ur dad has some seats, and everyone's happy. Might require some drilling for the swap though, as the majority of seat rails are tacked to the frame, they're pretty easy to get out though, and just takes some time to replace them with either a bolt/nut combo, or re-tach them.

Think the seats i had pulled, and swapped rails on were a rivit instead , now that i think of it. Either way, it drills out, and is easily replaced.

will that work with non-power factory seats, and power/lumbar 4thgen seats?

now that'd be agood question, swaping strickly the rails would give ur dad power 3rd gen seats in his convt. and you would get manual tracked 4th gen's in ur 3rdgen. Now, if the motors could swap to the different rails, hmmmm, don't know. But then we're talking about some serious swapping. LOL. might be best with biting the bullet, unless u can convience ur dad to "buy" those seats off you, and then you might be able to regain some of the $$ lost in purchasing the wrong seats, then you go out and buy another set of seats and go that route, in the long run, both cars have better seats in them, and everyone's happy, plus it's less work...unless u consider the work you'll have to do in order to make the $ to do the swap as work.

accually i AM selling him the seats for a decent price so that i can make up for some lost money with that.
im definatly gonna go with finding charcoal or grey leather seats with power and lumbar and swap the rails, the charcoal would look better in his interior anyway. Awsome THANKS!

Rails are interchangeable between nearly all GM buckets from at least 82-up. So, you could put in seats from F or G bodies, or even other cars like Grand Ams or Pontiac 6000s. 4th gen coupe ones will work as is. Its also easy to convert between power and non-power tracks.

I just recently swapped seats. I pulled my old seats with power rails. Then I put the power rails on the newer seats and put them in.

Very easy, just make sure you remember how the rails and especially the plastic covers came off the seats!

Hope this helps.

does that mean that all those guys that put all that effort into getting vette seats to fit in there cars are wasting there time and they could just swap rails?
