Smoothed (super glossy) & Painted (black) dash cluster cover

Well finally here are the pics of the dash trimmed out and installed in the car.

I painted the main section gloss black after I smoothed it. Then I painted the lower ledge adn switchs satin black

This paint is super slick!

Much better than what it was. Looks decent but I'd say there's too much color breakup in there. Lots of little sections of red. Should see what some painted grey/aluminum pieces would look like to replace some of that red...

Wow.... nice mirror finish. I'm thinking the whole dash would look pretty good like that in your car.

I can see where you would say that based on the pictures, but the overall effect is pretty balanced when you can see the interior as a whole. Some people dont like a lot of red in an interior, but overall there is enough black to tone it down. Her interior had been a continuing evolution over the last few years, and now every trace of gray (the original interior color) is gone and to me it looks MUCH better. Its a little flashier than I would do myself, but it works with the overall theme of the car, and is still fairly tame compared to some of the cars she competes against. We're planning to replace the (yellowing) carbon fiber console and radio plates with red and black carbon fiber, but thats about all thats left for the interior.

She wouldn't have any fingerprints left for sure after doing that! We're thinking about smoothing the whole dash and painting it like this on her 82 TA (93-96 Camaro dash).

teh stuff you do to that car never ceases to amaze me, that loosk awesome, but what happens if you get a good glare off your dash now that its nice and glossy, could be fun.

Looks good. I like the glossy finish much better than the dull factory black.

looks nice shannon. I'd almost like it a tad more if there was no red on the transparent panels, simple look like "nothing there" and then "something there" verses an outline around the "nothing there" effect.

That's just a personal opinoin, and i'm sure ya got that one b4. Nice job on the paint.

I tend to agree with you there, though the edges would have to be absolutely perfect IMHO, and they aren't quite. The dash cluster was one of hter first major interior mods (4-5 years ago), and her skills have improved a lot with experience (not knocking what was done then, just saying she has gotten really good with that sort of thing).

No he isn't 3rdgen.org material, but I am. I'm not trying to be rude, but I find that offensive. A majority of the people there have a very good knowledge of these vehicles and are actually willing to help out people that aren't jerks to them (i'm thinking one post by cheyenne383 who has an AA in automotive tech. when a guy was a complete jerk to him for giving him excellent information). And it's not saying much when you're comparing your car to L03s. I'm not going to go into what I think of the looks of your car, but I find that offensive when you generalize or stereotype members of a 3rdgen.org, people like Mrdude, Silverback, Jeremy, Me, and other that have donated a lot of info to this site from information that we have learned first hand.

I must say thats a bit too eccentric for me, looks more like something someone pieced together instead of something smoothly put in place once it was finished. The red and the chrome next to each other don't seem to fit in well either.

It is slow and over done which to me defines ****. You constantly get this response about this car yet you keep asking for opinions on it. If you don't want to hear the quit asking.

P.S. I like the smooth look but not the smoked panels.

That would be funny as hell to see!
I'd giggle like an idiot and then pee my pants.

That car is begging for 5 gallons of gas and a match.
It's just TOO FAR out there.
Couldn't you have just done all that crap to a Geo Metro or a Ford Focus?

I'd have a better sense of humor about your "mods" then . . .

I prefer positive looks and a quick thumbsup as opposed to a look of utter disgust and then gagging motions as I drive by.

Well I appologize for any offence to 3GO people who mistook my point, as you clearly have I was too general in my statement. I should have stated my point clearer and more directly. I was not generalizing towards the members! For the record...I did not say HE was 3GO material. I said "Sounds like some more 3rdgen.org material... " Meaning the statement SOUNDS like more 3GO material.

What I meant and should have said:
The actual reply is what I have personally seen over and over on 3GO in threads where MY CAR is mentioned. Hence sounding like some material that would come from 3GO REGARDING MY CAR.
Case & point: typical 3GO regarding me

As far as people being willing to help out others who are not jerks to them...well some of the members are jerks to me w/o my starting it, so they are giving 3GO a bad rep. And I have done nothing here on TGO, but try and help people with the experiences I have had. But some members seem to conveniently forget that.

Oh, “I” never compared my car to a LO3. But I think Joe’s point is that the stock 2.8 my car was equipt with could not do this. So it may not be much, but it is an improvement over what the car was and could do. We have a lot of dialing in yet to do with the new combo. Also consider there is not any resource for doing this to a 2.8 or 3.4 with winning combos, like there is for v-8s. There is not a chip I can buy. There is not a shop around here with any experience burning chips for this combo either. We have had to go out on our own with trial and errors. So you should applaud the fact that at least the effort is being made to make the car perform better. And its all done on a daily driver

How many of these responses actually pertain to the cluster cover? That's one reason I like this site, immature stuff like this usually gets locked so I don't accidentally waste my time reading it...

Has nothing to do with the actual opinion, just the lack of point to this tread! Stickers? Wing? OK cause that is what the thread is about! How is a dash thread have any reference to the overall appearance of my car? Just a thought!

Again if the points were relavent to the post, but the guy was talking about my whole car. This is a painted dash thread. Vast difference!

Nothing on my dash is from Autozone. Again nothing to do with the tread. However I do go there for actual cars parts, like sensors, gaskets, spark plugs…etc you get my point!

I posted no wings in this thread! Well unless you are and engineer how would you really know… Actually some people use them to keep the nose of the car down to keep stable traction on the frontend. Now if there was a place nearby to test if mine does this.

It is slow and over done which to me defines ****. You constantly get this response about this car yet you keep asking for opinions on it. If you don't want to hear the quit asking.

P.S. I like the smooth look but not the smoked panels.
Again did not ask about you opinion on performance or anything else. Just posted pics of the dash, but people seem to have lost this point! Though at least you stated a relavant point to this thread

It is still slow, still riced out, and still somehow tackier then 99% of all the honda boyeeezzzz.

Yall don't roll up to real muscle car shows in that thing do ya?
Actually I do and I win at those REAL muscle car shows over and over!
Super Chevy, World of Wheels (invitation only!), Trans Am Nationals, F-body Gathering, Southern Trans Am Regional Show…to name a few

Well come on to the next TA Nats, STARS, WOW, or local Super Chevy and you will see it. Make sure to remember to bring a towel to clean up your mess.

It's just TOO FAR out there.
Couldn't you have just done all that crap to a Geo Metro or a Ford Focus?

I'd have a better sense of humor about your "mods" then . . .
OK like they have any real performance potential…

Well I get the former, not the latter…

Can't figure out the red & chrome when refering to the dash cluster?

Wrong, the stock "duck bill" style rear spoiler is functional. It produces a wopping 6 lbs of downforce at 55 mph. or something close to that number, can't find the brochure image with the exact info.

You also said that we don't have the Autobaun around here which implied, to me at least, that you'd have to be driving 100+ mph

Humm... I see you've edited your post to take out what we're talking about

The only proven spoiler is the Mecham spoiler. This is the one that Pontiac won with. Most spoilers do not serve a true purpose unless you are driving 100+ Like on the Autobahn. Does this mean that since GM produced spoilers that are not really funtional that they were putting out ****. Wow that means there are alot of ricers straight out of GM! This was my point earlier. I have never seen any docs to show what spoilers provide what downforce. The only stock one I have heard anything about being semi funtional is the Aero wing and that was on TGO. Not sure about any real tests on it though.

Technically, 6 lbs of downforce is a functional spoiler directly from the factory. Even if it didn't win any races, it's still a functional part or it could have been total BS that the publishers threw in the sales brochure back in '82.

Well considering I don't have a library of borchures to read up on, I said I had not seen any that said what is or is not functional.

Hmmm, I lived in Georgia for 21 years, and I had no trouble getting a chip done. I can think of several places that can dyno and burn chips. Try the yellow pages or better yet, since you're here, the intraweb.

I thought the point of this thread was to show off your new dash pad modifications. I also thought the point of you posting those pictures was to get feedback. If you want feedback, be able to accept the good with the bad.

If you would have paid attention that response was not aimed at you but LT1 guy. That is why he was quoted. The P.S. part was for you but the rest was not.
