Have you considered the '90-'92 airbag wheels? I had one in my '89 before I got the restoration bug, and it bolted right in - it took less than 15 minutes to pull the old wheel and swap in the airbag one.

not sure if this is your style or not, but I installed a Grant GT Signature Series in mine. I can actually have the steering wheel all the way down without it hitting me knee's too

Aww, dammit. You beat me to it; selling mine only occurred to me AFTER reading your post and then realizing that I don't need mine anymore because I'm getting a new stock one

The stock one in the Iroc had 2 different steering whel covers on it when i got it, when i took them off i knew why anyways since i work at a junkyard i just went out through the yard one day and found a steering wheel i thought would look good in the ol roc, and came across the one pictured. They come in 90-94 Lumina's (the apv van and cars) and 90-94 Cavaliers. the black ones had either a silver bowtie like mine or red. the steering wheels also came in blue, red, gray and tan.

the 91-92 air bag wheels are cheap junk, the top of mine rotted out and the buttons on either side don't work, I pulled it out and replaced it with a 3 spoke wheel off of a later trans am, now my horn works and I have something to hold onto when I drive!

I have the same wheel but I sanded the black off and polished it.

Looks very nice.

You know, I’ve always liked the look of those, especially considering how much cheaper they are then most of the other wheels that I like, but I’ve wondered about how durable the synthetic leather grip is and how it feels for some fast driving (autox…)

Is that a black grip or a grey one that you have on your car?

only problem I noticed was that when I put the 87 trans am wheel on I had to grind the plastic cover I just had to cut it down like a cetemeter or less. so it would not rub on the colum

matt
wow my interior looks real dirty there but its actually really clean, prolly should leave the flash off next time.

I have the same one Sickness has... its great! I replaced my Z28 wheel because, even though it looks alright, the leather wrap got loose, and it was annoying as hell having it slide around.

That’s the same one that I have in my car, stock, but mine isn’t nearly in as nice a shape. The paint on the spokes has for some reason started bubbling and the cover isn’t in as good a shape.

I would consider taking it apart, cleaning it up and even stitching a new cover for it (I’ve done stuff like that before with good success when I was in college and had more time then money), but I’d also like to get something slightly smaller in diameter (I’ve got some very long legs) and with a fatter grip in there.

actually, I keep thinking that it would look really good cleaned up in my truck...

I guess that I'd have to do something with the firechicken logo on it though...

Actually, the wheel I mentioned stitching a cover for was the one in my ’83 TA, which was similar but had a slightly bulkier center section. I wish I had a picture of it, I cut back the padded areas on the spokes slightly…

The center section had a soft rubber horn button that the firebird logo was like a little medallion which popped out, in that case you could put anything you wanted in there.

I always wondered if the steering wheel out of my Tahoe would fit. It is comfortable and looks nice in a "neutral" kind of way And, it is not that bulky for an airbag wheel..

It may come too far back though.. Bad shot, but it is the only one I have:
