Is there a way to regulate the pressure in the hatch struts? I bought replacements in July and since then someone need to catch the hatch when the switch is pressed. If not, when it opens it feels the hatch will detach from the car the struts have so much force.

mine are like that as well. the hatch really pops up. i don't hit the switch and just put the key in the hatch in the rear and catch the hatch on the way up. still beats having a hatch that sags and won't pop up ever.

Sounds like you got the wrong struts. They make different ones (with and without rear wiper, etc.) based on the estimated weight of the hatch....

I don't think there are wrong. I ordered them from the local dealer just in case. They asked if I had rear defroster, rear wiper, and spoiler so I think they are right. I actually still have the old struts and can most likely check the part numbers. I was just wondering if there's a trick to releasing a little pressure. They might lose a little when I store the car over the winter too I don't know.

the will get a little weaker , just give it time . I few months of it being down will take care of it .

i have a new GM set on my car since the paint job. mine used to fly up by itself(when it was hot outside it made it even worse) after a few months, they have settled down.

Being I don't use my car too much during the winter, is it possible totake the struts out for the winter and store them in their expanded state and keep them from getting weaker?

yep. take em off and they will pop open, then put em back in when the cars ready to drive again

Just note that there were multiple spoiler options. And not all weigh the same! Did they ask what spoiler you have?

I swapped to a aero wing hatch strut. Found a good strong set at the bone yards! My old ones were not strong enough for my current set up. The aero wing one is perfect. I can put the hatch at whatever height I want it and they will hold it. My old ones (weaker) will go on the 82 since its getting a Fiero spoiler (made of plastic and considerably lighter then my stock spoiler). Its hatch strusts were dead.

Also I noticed when I was swapping to my new spoiler, (I was w/o any spoiler w/ the new bare decklid) my old struts for the hatch with a stock spoiler were too much. The darn bare decklid was cataput material with the speed it went up.
