i have a 86 trans am and the hood closes and latches but it sticks up like 2 inches from being flush with the bumper and its not the hood bumpstops because they are screwed all the way down i was wondering if their is any adjustment in the latch at all also does anyone else have this problem and help would be great.

I'm nearly certain that the latch can be adjusted up or down, although I don't know how it's done. It can't be terribly difficult, though. I know this because I had a '92 RS that I wrecked in the front; the idiot body shop tech "fixed" the car, but the hood was a good inch above the bumper cover and the guy had the audacity to tell me that "Camaros came like that".

I demanded that he fix it properly after arguing with him for several minutes, and he finally bent to my will :rockon:

There are some black rubber stoppers at the front corners of the hood. You can screw them down and unscrew them up depending on what side of the hood needs to go down or up to make it more flush. Very simple, just takes a lot of opening and shutting the hood

you could cut the spring... i don't know how extreme this would be.... i would double check the rubber stoppers all the way around the hood first..

The latch is secured with 2 bolts, loosen them, move the latch down and tighten it back up. This may result in the rear of the hood sticking over the fender though.

Yes, 3gc is right move the latch down, but I dont think you'll get two inches out of it, you may have to look farther...Like into the center support. Possibly the lower tie bar... Has it ever been nosed into a ditch, onto a curb, or rock?
The center latch support travels all the way down to the bottom of the radiator support and there is SOME adjustment to this as well.
However, if the radiator support is pushed up from the bottom you may be in for some work ahead of you.

Also, the front bumper is adjustable. Remove the plastic peice around the latch and you will see 2 mounting brackets on either side of it that the headlight bar mount to. Loosen all six bolts, three on each side and pull up on the nose (not too hard though, don't want to break the headlight bar). While the nose is still in position tighten the bolts. It is helpful to have some one else with you to hold it while you tighten.

This is assuming the trans am nose attaches in the same fasion as the Camaros nose.

Nope, with the flip lamps they don't have a headlamp mount panel.
The nose is, however SOMEWHAT adjustable.

there is other ways to do this tho.. i have had this problem also. What happend was my car was hit from the side on the front right fender before i bought it.. it must have buckeld the front bumper when it was hit. heres how it looked in the pic. It was worse then it looks.

So this is what i did and how it looks afterwards. what i did was where the light buckets are on the inside right under there. i Shoved some cloth from a towel and it actually pushed up the top where it meets the hood. i have to put more in there but im increasing the size cloth slowly..
