Spare Wheel Question

Hi,
I have been trying to sort out all the bangs, rattles and squeaks on my 82 Firebird. I has sorted out an exhaust rattle and a bang where the hand brake cable bangs off the body when I go over a bump. The one I am after at the moment seems to be coming from the trunk. I have a question on the space saver wheel, is there supposed to be a support or cushion thing under the wheel. There is none on mine, the wheel is just locked onto the jack.

Thanks,

The inflatible space saver spare (with pressurized fill canister) has a plastic filler piece under it when stowed. I don't think there is a filler piece under the mini spares that are already inflated.

My car is an 82 and the Space saver wheel is already inflated. I didn't know there are wheels you have to inflate. I have seen these spare wheel rests or cushions for sale on ebay and wondered whether there sould be one under my spare wheel.

The space saver spares that required inflating were supplied in both steel and aluminum (N64 option). Here's a picture of an aluminum one. They don't normally look this nice. Someone took the trouble of polishing theirs and posting the picture.
