here is the cleared panle 4 coats of candy and 3 coats of clear. all quicky layers i did let it flash. it may be easier to see without the plastic behind it now.

candy is in intercoat tinted clear coat. so for a base/clear paint job it ends up being base candy clear 3 stages. candy gives it a deeper look with color in it. look at candie91z's car his is candy red. there is another name for it but it is a red.
you can also see the diffrence in the first pic that blue is the base, at that point i could of cleared it to give it shine, i went on to candy and then clear you can see how much deeper it is.
i can;t wait to put it on the entire car. mine will be the left side the darker blue. depending on what your base it the color affect changes that is why i split the panel.

your base is what determines the color...your number of tinted clear layers is what determines the overall shade and depth.
use heavy metallics to sparkle and shift colors. use flakes/pearls and otherwise to add prismatic depths. typically why gold and silver are used for base coats as they offer the most depth and shift of any colors you could choose.
looking good....

Nice color choice man. I was going to use a blue very similar to that just slighlty darker but because my car was white and still in oiriginal paint when i did it I stuck with the white so I didn't have to do the engine compartment. That is one sweet color you have me drooling

every thing including one extra gun for clearing 1300.00 the gun was only 140.00 devilbis good deal. that is epoxy primer, 2k, base , candy , and clear, and some cleaners wax n grease remover and gun cleaner (thinnner).
could of went with the hok kbc line which mimick candy but i figured what the hell. might as well do the entire thing.

better choice....just practice a bit on some test pannels. you'll get it. also work with drying time between layers as that can affect it as well. if you want to be really tricky and had a extra gun around you could do pearl coats in between the coats of candy. makes an excellent effect.

how is the pearl shot is that just mixed in a clear? i was going to ask you about the blue pearl in your cars finish. I do have 2 guns and a touch up gun.
Spdfrk: test panel was done outside the car won't be done without proper booth set up.

would there be a better color choice for the pearls? say a red or green i would expect a blue would not give much of an effect as everything else is blue. i don;t want to get to purple either.

have you tried taking out the metallic/pearl in the paint...or at least not going as strong. it adds more depth and shine without it. i'm seriously thinking of getting rid of the metallic as much as possible in my next color.
something more like this...
it's hard but you'll notice the shadowing effect with the crisp corners of the metal, this won't happen as much the more metallic/pearl you add.
