88 Firebird Dash setup in 86 Z28 HELP!
I got a complete dash out of an 88 Firebird. I also have a 90-92 camaro wiring harness. I want to put the Firebird dash into the camaro? Anyone ever done this? Any problems or thoughs on this?
The Z28 is a carbed car which has very few systems (no cruise no power locks mirrors defroster fog lights or anything pretty much)
But I want to run the firebird dash with a 4th gen center console. The only pic I have of an older camaro setup appears to be mechanical but this firebird dash appears to be electronic. Did firebirds get electronic setups before camaro's and if this setup is electronic can I use the camaro harness?
I looked around a bit and didnt see any threads really pertaining to this particular question. I am doing this for a # of reasons.
1 I dont want to do a 4th gen dash
2 I hate the early 80's camaro setups
3 The firebird swaps easier to the 4th gen center console.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Just to answer a question or two. Firebirds got electric speedos in 87; alot earlier than camaros.
Did you get the whole dash or just the guage cluster?

You have a lot of work ahead of you.
Best idea is to get a complete underdash harness from an 86-88 Firebird, and splice it into the Camaro harness where it heads back to the taillights. If you can get one from an 86 or 87 that had the LG4, it is already set up for a carb.
You'll need to change or modify a couple of brackets on the car to properly mount the dash at the lower outer corners - the bolt position is different between the Camaro and Firebird dash.
The Firebird used the electric speedo from 86-on if the cluster had gauges; if it just had the dumbass lights in 86 or 87, it was equipped with a cable-driven speedo. 88-on, all got full gauges.
The Camaro harness is quite different; it will be so much easier to use a 'bird harness that will almost completely plug right in.

so it will be too difficult to run the 90-92 camaro dash wiring?
Now this is an 86. With no factory security system no computer no power windows no power locks no power mirrors no defroster.
so I only need the electronic speedometer cluster hook up and wiring for the radio and climate controls.... could I even just adapt my current wiring harness using some of the 90-92 wiring harness?

It's so much more trouble than it's worth...unless you have lots of time. In that case, you should get ahold of the wiring diagrams from both vehicles, and cipher out what would need to be spliced. You're looking at 50-odd splices by using the Camaro harness, versus only six or eight by using a Firebird harness - those just for the rear brake and marker lights.
You'll need all the connectors to plug into the Firebird switches and dash cluster anyways, plus you'd need to add the wiring for the remote-mounted dimmer module for dashboard lights.
