Anybody 1200 DA for orange peel??

Wet sanding by hand is taking me ****ing forever so I went to the local Dupont paint shop today for some 1200DA paper.

Two guys there told me it worked good.
One guy was from a Chevy dealership and did it alot.
The other guy was behind the counter and also used the 1200DA occasionally.

Have you guys ever wetsanded with a DA???

If there is that much peel in the paint that u cant sand it out fairly quickly with 1000 grit by hand you might as well sand it back down and redo it because with the 1200 on a da you will most likely burn through the clear...

I say try a spot and see what it does....It can be done, and very efficiently at that. But I wouldn't go crazy on it without seeing what it does. I'm in the middle of wet sanding all the orange peel out of my car as well....I'm using 1500grt by hand..and a block for the dirt specs. I can't use anything more aggressive because I can't get the 1000 or even 1200 scratches to come out no matter what compound I use....being my car is black, it makes the scratches 10x more noticable....So if I were you, I'd try the 1200DA and do a small area....then go back with 1500 or more with your hand. Then buff and polish that and see how it looks....just my .02

just wetsand by hand. or accept the minor flaws that remain.

trying to shortcut like that is a very risky thing to do.... and if a lil orange peel bugs you, then you dont want to accidently burn thru the clear....

A DA can cause all sorts of damage if you don't know what you're doing. You've got to keep it as flat as possible without getting skipping, and you've got to be good to be able to keep a consistant, smooth stroke back and forth over the panel.

And even if you're good, you're probably still going to goof it up and burn through your clear somewhere.

Just go back to block sanding with 1200, then again with 2000. If doing this crap was easy, everybody's car would be wetsanded and buffed.

I've DA's a few cars using 1500 and didn't have many problems. I know wetsanding is messing and time consuming...but..I think it's the better option.....

I doesnt take that long man try polishing your wheels by hand and get back to me on that 1 lol. I actually enjoy wetsanding the clear it does suck tho when the car isnt on a rotisary and you have to sand the bottom of the doors and the quarters.

**** wetsanding, my shop uses 1200 on a da, but its not your regular DA sander, it has a soft pad and the paper is like a babys ***, ok, as long as you use the right da, 1200 is perfect, just stay away from edges man, that will eat through it like nothing, take your time, and wipe the dust off from time to time with your hand, you can see all the orange peel left and get to it, but that 1200 is expensive isnt it....hmm...lol...i hate it, but it works...
