Ventshades...do they make them?

Hey All,

I wanted to get some ventshades for my TransAm so that when its raining I can still have the windows open a crack to allow fresh air to circulate into the car. Basically they are pieces of plastic that go on the outside of the car and fold down a bit and alow you to open your window an inch.

Heres a pic of my tempo...I bought some for it and well it helped that car in the rain as teh windows would fog real quickly without having the windows open a bit.

nah they dont make them. atleast i've never heard of them or even seen them... i think its because of the angle of the glass or the way the pillar is on the cars. prob blow right off on the highway. i say leave it factory look, i think they would make the car look bulky.

You might could get some custom made..... but you would have to roll your windows down to open the door....and you would have to climb out the hatch if you didn't want the windows down when the door was closed with nobody in it.....and you....

no they don't make them

Exactly. You can't put them on f-bodies. You need a door frame that encloses the window.

That is one pimp Tempo.

CRAP!!! never thought of that. Ok so that is out. Now to figure out how to get air into my car when it rains without opening the window or turning on the heat. I have a feeling that the dremel will be put to work or this project.

This is an ongoing issue for me too, being in the Dallas, TX area and having a black car. It really gets hot sitting in the sun, especially if I don't have the shades in the T-tops. Here's what I've been playing with trying to work out....

With T-tops, I figured I would make up some 2 piece Ventshades - one piece mounted to the T-top and the other on the windshield pillar. Figured if I had a tiny bit of overlap with the pillar over the top of the T-top piece it would help keep it from flapping and/or blowing off. There is enough flexibility in the shades so that part wasn't a problem. So I cut out a big piece of cardboard that matched the door profile and went to Pep Boys trying to find some shades that would fit the long pillar, window, and its curvature. I quickly found out I needed a 4 door version of the shades. I don't remember which ones ended up fitting the "best" out of their assortment, but I may still have the sticker for them (will have to check tonight). The "back door" shades worked well on the T-top length wise, but didn't match the curvature on them very well. Because of the angles of the T-top edges, they also stuck out too far and didn't look very good at all, so I took them back off.

I may play with this idea some more with them just on the pillar to deflect water when driving after or during a rain, but the complete shade idea so you can leave a window cracked open hasn't worked out with the ones I've tried. Maybe you can find some that will match better than the ones I tried. Hope you have better luck than I did, as this is an on-going problem with these cars in hotter climates where showers are common.

Have a Great Day!!!

vern,
it was already mentioned that you can't have them on a car without a windo frame. If you install them, how would you close the door with the window up? That's why vent shade never made them for our cars!

To keep the heat down, I have the rear window louvers. those and the ttop shades work wonders. The only glass on top now id the windshield. That was why the louvers were created in the first place.

By mounting them on the t-tops the angle was such that the door closed fine. But I didn't like the looks of them so I gave up on that idea. You're right that if they fit like on a standard door frame that they would hit the window.

As for the rear louvers, have you ever seen those for a Firebird? I doubt they would look right....

Have a Great Day!!!
