Complete interior swap between 92 RS and 85 Z28

Yeah, me and my buddy want to swap interiors. I have the 85 Z and he has the RS.

The reason we want to swap is his black interior is going to go better with my car, since it's black. And he likes my grey with his teal colored car.

How hard is this? I'm not asking for instructions, just anything I should be aware of and approximately how long it will take.

I am NOT changing headliners as my car has T-Tops and his does not. I'm finding another donor for my headliner.

Thanks guys! When I start on this I'll post some pictures. I attached a pic of my interior right now.

its do-able, It took me about 3 hours to put new carpet in, if you work on yours and he works on his you could do the whole swap- the headliner in 3-5 hours easily. And to do carpet you have to take everything except the dash out so its about the same as swapping out the interior, I also put in 4th gen seats and redid my headliner(the headliner was out for a few weeks waiting on ordering the stuff and glue drying and me being busy. This is assuming you have the same acc like cargo cover or not, solid or split rear if they are different then it is more involved.

As for the headliner just get some 3m spray adheasive and go to a cloth store and get them to order the color you want it will cost you about 20-30 for new cloth to recover your headliner, or if you have one of those moble headliner companies around (check the phone book) its like 50 to get them to do the headliner.

The 92 interior has provisions for the rear seat shoulder belts, the 85 doesn't.

I had the same issue putting an 87 interior in my 89. I didn't put the rear belts back in, but if that's not an option, you can just look for early style seat belts ob E-bay.

Do you both have manual windows? They will have holes in the doorpanels for the crank.

Yeah we both have manual windows

We wanted to switch over the seat belts for the rear seats as well, is this doable?

I guess all the belts and interior pieces would just swap right over, but I don't know what you'd bolt the shoulder belt retractors to.

In the 92, the 85 interior would go right in, but in the 85, I don't think there is anywhere for the 92's shoulder harness to bolt to.

Here's a close-up of mine before the interior went back in. (obviously)

The yellow circle is around a little "T" shaped hole, which you can see is on a brakcet that your 85 doesn't even have. You can see the shoulder retractor with the blue and green circle. The green circle is the little piece that fits into the "T" hole, and the blue circle just shows a regular bolt hole.

Once the "T" is fitted into the bracket, you just bolt it down.

Does this help?

....regardless of how it attaches, without having that bracket, there's no way to attach it.

...but like I said, find some non shoulder belts from Ebay, you'll be fine!
