heater question?
while building my custom console i'm trying to figure out what to do with the heater/ac controls.
i do not have a/c any more and i understand that i can't relocate the actual stock gm pannel. what if anything could i do to possibly rid my console of such a large pannel for something i really don't use. i would like control over my vents for what little circulation and heat i use but i would rather have something i use more in that general location.
any ideas or resources for relocating or basically building something that would control the heat/vents and allow me to move it anywhere i want?

you could relocate them to the center console? Is there any free space there? Just make switches to turn em on and off and make a dial to adjust how hot or cold it is. Might look pretty sweet too!

Aside from the bulky size of the storcker, why can't you move it ?
All you would have to do is extend the vac. lines and get a longer hot/cold cable. Late 80's s-10's have a cable that is around 3' long as compared to the about 18" stock. You could probably make one using a brake cable for a bicycle. It's doesn't take much effort/force to operate the diverter door. Just a random thought....

It should be pretty simple. Extending wires for the blower switch and vacuum lines for the vent selector is simple. The hot cold/cable work just like a brake cable, it shouldn't be hard.

The stock unit would look horribly out of place on any customized fiberglass dash
I have no idea how to do all the converting so you can use different switches and what not, but something worth looking into.

From what I was told (by IROCZDAVE when I bought my AC delete box from him) that its a major PITA to switch to the non-AC controls in a car that had AC from factory
He did'nt explain what all was involved,he just said it wasnt worth the headaches....Lord know's I have enough of those!
