I suspect the 10mm screw holding the manual latch release to the hatch pull-down unit has come loose. You'll have to crawl into the rear hatch area (I recommend parkign the car in the shade). Pop off the rear hatch light lens. Inside you'll ba able to see that one screw that holds the latch release to the hatch pull-down. If it is still there remove it and pus the black (manual release) or silver (solenoid release) out of the way. You'll see a square opening. Inside is the hatch release tab that the manual or solenoid release pulls. Move it to the left with a standard flat blade screwdriver and the hatch will pop open. Once you'ce got it open you'll have to remove the plastic rear hatch surround trim piece (4 large plastic screws and two phillips screws to remove). Now you'll be able to investigate and repair any problem with the hatch release cable. There is an off-white color plastic piece that snaps onto the back side of the lock cylinder. It takes a flat blade screwdriver to pop it off. The other end is attached as I've descrebed with one 10mm screw to the hatch pull-down unit. Make sure you have it all sorted out correctly before you close the hatch or you'll be crawling into the rear hatch area AGAIN. I have several of the manual release cable or solenoid release cables if you discover you need one.

Good luck,

Lon
