aftermarket steering wheels
I'm wanting to replace my old worn air-bag steering wheel for something new and cool.
are there any brands that are prefered over others here?
I look at Grant wheels and it looks like there is no install kit for my make and year... because I have a bag? I'm sure other people must have been thru this?
any pics of your interior or steering wheel would be cool too

You aren't finding an install kit for your year car I think because it's illegal to remove the air bag. An install kit from a 89 should work fine.
Here's my Grant Le Mans steering wheel.

thanks for the info, I was thinking it was legal for the bag to be taken out, considering how some of these bags go haywire and cause burns and cuts, etc... I've always felt uncomfortable about it.
now my steering wheel is in very bad shape, the vinyl rotting off it... I would think it should be legal...
these wheels look a lot better installed, I look at all the different ones and sometimes can't imagine it looking good... but that looks great 3gc.

Thanks. I wasn't saying you shouldn't remove it and replace it. I would remove it but keep the bag and wheel and if you ever want to sell the car, put it back on.

I've wanted to replace the steering wheel in my 92 with an aftermarket one, but I've heard stories that the insurance company can deny to pay your claim if you are in accident and have removed the factory air bag. Is there any truth to this?

I aslo have the airbag on mine and it looks horrible. How exactly do you remove the stock airbag steering wheel? is it a PITA because of the bag, or is it just like any other steering wheel removal?

i've also heard this, but i only pay liability anyways, so no matter what if i wreck it, im screwed, what i think most do is just keep the stock one, and if u get in a wreck, switch em out and no one will know. jsut hope the wreck wasnt bad enough that the air bag (if there) should have deployed.. good luck

I'd really like to do this, I put a Grant wheel in the Trans Am, but I'm worried about the airbag issue with the Camaro.

Here's mine. It's a grant. (red shift plate is now black once again!!!!)
I really like mine,....but I think I'm going to convert back to the stock radio controlled wheel once I find one in a condition I like.

yes you need an adapter for all aftermarkets, to my knowledge anyways, to adjust from the stock setup. the stock wheels have the plastic and metal piece attached to the wheel that gives the space between the blinkers to the wheel itself. all the adapter does is replace that gap and allow the aftermarket piece to be bolted directly to the adapter.

as much as i hate apc (oh, and i do. with a passion), i believe grant makes their steering wheel stuff. the install kits are identical (i have both), the wheels are the same design, and i know the install kits are now labeled as APC by Grant. i'm planning on getting one of the 3-spoke types and just doing a couple of rattle can coats on the center button to cover the APC logo. i've got the cheap 4-spoke grant one in now (the same as a few others here) and its deffinately beat.

If you do convert to a regular wheel without an air bag and you have one how do you keep the infl rest light from coming on? Do you just twist the wires together?
