Battery Tray Rust

Alright guys i guess the title of my other thread kinda steered people away from it. but i found lots of rust in my battery tray. SO i have some Naval Jelly that i'm gonna use to fix the rust. Then i got some Rust-Olium Rusty Metal Primer, and some Roofing Tar. Since this is a common occurance i'm gonna make sure it never happens again. By killing the rust on both sides of the metal. And primering it. Then covering it all with Roofing Tar to completely separate the leaking battery acid from the paint.

Is this a good idea or what?

heres the old thread,

if your too lazy to goto that page here is the rust,

Once that battery tray starts to rust its history. Also that tray is part of the front innerfender support and if it rots though it is possible to drop the battery on the front tire. Just a thought before you cover the rust up. I ended up having a new tray welded in.

you can buy a battery tray from classic industries for 40 bucks and weld it in.

POR-15 did the trick for me. Highly recommended.
