Gas Pedal Install?
Hi,
The gas pedal on my Camaro was pretty shot and it was flopping around all over the place and just being a general nuisance. I bought a new gas pedal and was informed that there was a spring that provided the tension to the pedal.
Since my old pedal did not have a spring I am not sure just how the spring is installed with the pedal and pedal rod.
Does anyone know how this all fits together?
Does anyone know of a web page that shows a picture/diagram of how it fits together?
Sure would be nice to have a smooth, nicely operating gas pedal again..........................
Thanks in advance for any and all replies!

I didn't read the whole image but from what i skimed i didn't see it mention the spring so i figured i'd chime in. It's been about a year and a half since i've put mine on but if i remember correctly one part of the spring goes against the pedal (plastic part) while the other part goes against the metal part of the pedal.

If I remember correctly, the design was changed in the later models (not sure which year) and the spring was no longer required. This picture is from the 89 camaro GM service manual.

Thanks for the input and the picture. GM dealer said there was a spring (this was last year when I bought the parts).
One end of the spring has a 90 degree turn (spring is kind of "V" shaped) and I believe that it goes onto the pedal rod, the other end against the pedal itself, and the pin through the middle of the spring and of course through the pedal and pedal rod itself to attach the whole thing together.
I do not think mine had a spring because the back side of the pedal was so eaten away that it would literally go sideways and wasn't that a treat to drive with! Perhaps the spring broke or rotted away or something....or perhaps it didn't come with one.
I just figured the spring was necessary for proper tension.
I will have to check my Trans Am (1983) and my Fiero (1987) and see what they have for gas pedals.....it cannot be too radically different, can it?

Hey,
Thanks to Trickster and 3gc for the info, diagrams, and picture!!
The picture fits my idea of how it all fits together. Now I just have to wriggle myself in and put it together.
Thanks for your perseverance on my behalf. It is really appreciated and shows what a great board this is!
