headliner board
ugh, i'm frustrated. called an auto upholstery shop this morning to get my headliner replaced and they said it was $125 if the headliner board was in good condition, which it isn't. so i ask how much it is for a board. what do you think, $15, $20, maybe even $50? yeah try $250. sooo, screw that i'm not paying $375 to replace my headliner.
so i drove around for about 4 hours going to 5 junkyards, and found nothing. there were a couple cars with FULL interior still (radio, seats, etc.) minus the headliner. what the hell i didnt know headliner board was such a hot item.
anyway, is there any way to make your own board? anyone know what material is used for the board? if i cant make one i guess i'll have to wait to pick one up from somebody parting out their car, but boxing it up would kind of suck.
and it's getting damn hot here and i have t-tops and want to take them off!!

Headliner boards are typically made from fiberglass or ABS plastic.
You can get new ABS headliners from thirdgenresource or hawk's (i think) with sail panels and visors for less than what that guy wanted to charge you.
As for doing it yourself, there are a TON of articles already posted about this. Search is your friend.

i'll do a search
however, i don't remember any posts about making your own board, just recovering your pre-existing board, which won't be helping me because my board is in too bad of shape to recover.

well like 90% of it is in fine shape, but in both of the right back corners the board has started deteriorating, and when i take the t-tops off the wind blows clouds of particles all into the car and my eyes and everything. hah i've had to pull over before cause the stupid ceiling got in my eyes. and also along the driver side of the t-top bar it's deteriorating. maybe the t-tops used to leak and the water hurt the board? i dunno, doesn't leak now.
anyway...if i knew what substance they use (besides fiberglass...the original is just some kind of fiber stuff, but seems more like cardboard or fiberboard than fiberglass), then i could just make a template and cut it out and it'd be simple

If all you want is the headliner you can get an ABS one for about $140 + shipping. I found them on a site a while ago for about $120 + shipping, but i can't find it again. It was a company that only sold interior peices like headliner, sunvisors and what not.

alot of b.s if you ask me, the prices for parts on our cars is rediculous. i love my car but i'll never build another 3rdgen.

i guess i might go for the headliner from Hawks...$139 isn't too bad, although an extra $45 for shipping kind of sucks

Paying for shipping always sucks. Believe me. I pay for shipping oh about 30 times a year. Lucky for me if I am making a big order & have a X amount of $ in orders some companies do free shipping.

hmm, i think i'll check some board members who are parting out their cars first to see if i can scrounge up a board. if not, i guess i'll order from automotiveinteriors (thanks for the links gilley).
so that's like $136 shipped uncovered vs. $184 shipped and covered....i'm sure i can cover it myself for much less than $48.
if i end up getting the board CaysE, then i'll look up the how-to's on headline repair

any board can be repaired. Any!!!! All it tkaes is as muhc hot glue as you can get to restucture the shape and then smooth it out with fiberglass cloth.
When recovering use my headliner repair article in my sig.
