Man i guess you guys were right about the fur!!

Alright guys there is a story behind this so listen, pretty interesting.

Sunday, I was washing my car, like every Sunday. I washed it with my Mr. Clean auto dry car wash (which works by the way), then polished it with my stage 2 Maguire’s Polish. Then I waxed it with my stage 3 Maguire’s Carnauba Wax. I then dried out the doors and stuff, took of the t-tops dried that out, dried the inside hood area. The car dries by itself, just the little cracks and stuff.

Then it was time to take out the good ole 12 volt vacuum. Vacuumed out the car got it nice and clean. Then got out my new Maguire’s interior polish stuff, polished it. Once I was done I just wanted to sit in the car and relax ya know. So I sat in the driver’s seat and laid it back all the way and lied down. I saw the headliner, DUH!! The bad/good thing was that fro the first time I was disgusted with my fur headliner. I was like, omg am I expecting this to actually work with my interior. Then I just sat back down and started to day dream ya know and I ended up seeing people laughing at my headliner. I was like, omg I got to get rid of this thing. I started feeling it and wondering why I even put it in and it didn't feel comfy anymore. It felt like a girls hair that uses Panteen Pro V (everyone knows its super bad for your hair), it felt dry, and was like ewww.

I tried to forget about it but then today I was driving to school and I got there a bit early, less traffic, so I lay down again and started to look at it. I was again disgusted with it. I don’t know what I was ever thinking about it.

Then I was thinking oh man, and just about everyone in the message board said it sucked and I sat there trying to defend this POS(not point of sale).I was so pissed that I almost wanted to pull the thing down right there are school and wear it around school like an idiot. But I didn't.

So I just got to apologize to you guys I said were stupid for saying it sucks. I guess I was all caught up in the pride I had for it. It’s like it was my first real mod to the car and had my sentimental value. But it just doesn’t match anything in the car.

My question to you guys is, what kind of stuff should I cover it with now???? I was thinking black vinyl.

Thanks,

Shane

Glad you came to your senses.

I don't think you'll be able to make the vinyl look good. Too many turns and corners to deal with. If you go to a decent fabric store they have actual headliner material.

Or even better if you have the money, check ebay, you can just get a nice ABS plastic, already covered headliner for like $140.

Try Kevlar or carbon fiber...no one has done either one of those two yet.

Hey man, I use Pantene Pro V...my hair doesnt feel dry!!

What if you did it in a smooth metal, plastic would probably be easier though. Instead of having texture like the stock panels..smooth it out, fill the seams, and paint it some color, like a gloss or something. Just a thought.

Just use cardboard or somthing under the material and make some kind of design. I believe its been done before and works right? But you can come up with a uniuqe design atleast

You have to use something that is VERY stretchy. As you know, the cardboard kinda backing stuff will not hold up to anything stiff being applied to it.

I would go to a fabric shop and see what they have that's real stretchy, like a velour or who knows? I did it and wound up getting all excited about a roll of stuff that turned out to be "headliner material".

Good luck

I might actually try to fiberglass the existing board, then paint it tio look metsl. It would be a hell of a lot cheaper.

Finally! I knew you'd see the light. Yeah don't do vinyl too hard I tried it, just couldn't get the damn thing to stick well. What you could do is get some fiberglass resin and put it all over the outside of the board and make it nice and smooth. It will make it look like plastic. Then you can sand and do whatever...make it perfectly smooth and paint it body color, that might look cool....if you want to be different. I was doing the resin thing with my board and had thought of painting it black in the meantime that I got a new ABS headliner, but I never did it. If it ends up looking like ***, you can always cover over it. But if you're gonna use a fabric, maybe like a perforated Alcantara or something, the cloth material that looks like suede, if you can find it. If not I already told you check out a Jo Ann's fabrics, they have a bunch of fabrics since they're a damn fabric store. They'll have more than Wal-Mart.

Here is a place in Tampa, I know you live in Jacksonville, but they carry Ultrasuede which is similar to Alcantara and other materials as well as carbon fiber vinyl, looks like carbon fiber but comes in a cloth you can cover stuff with. http://www.gulffabrics.com/

aight smooth it and paint it either silver to match the exterior and then it look like a bare roof instead of a headliner which would be nice.
or do it black liek a metallic or pearl to have something different but match the interior.
or i was goin to say leather.
but stuff i got i call it crushed velvet but the auction said crushed panne velvet velour or soemthing so that smy idea hehe and original liek my hood.
but for me i keep doin new custom stuf aint nobody done so mine stays different tryin to stay ahead of the game.
how about gorila hair lmao? its liek long hair carpet? lol i bet that be more like yur fur tho. or what about thin carpet like speaker box stuff? its nice but its been done i think.
guy here done his hole interior w/ it looked very sweet. it was grey speaker box carpet hes got a trans am /firebird whicher u want cal it and a very nice bright red maybe orange color on the outside.
sorry eyes bad on colors.

Headliner material $7.50 per yard on a 60" roll. Super stretchy, easy to work with around corners. Super light and can be held up on the roof by standard 3M spray adhesive. Go for it.

Vinyl will look O.K. too if you use a good quality vinyl and some heat to stretch it around all of the corners properly. It takes a lot more work to make it look nice though, especially with the soft fiberglass backing. Plus it's heavier, which means you have to use a more expensive/thicker glue to hold it up.

Practice will only improve your ability to work with vinyl, but from the look of your door panels, you could use a bit more practice before attempting a pretty hard to do headliner. Did you use any heat on the door panels? Or was that vinyl just not stretching for you even when heated???

You could do a brush stainless steel headliner, or a brushed aluminium headliner.

alright guys, you dont know how hard it is to be original. I want todo something completely revolutionary. If that means completely redesigning a headliner then i will learn to fiber glass stuff.

I'm thinking about making a fiber glassed headliner board, but make it have internal pockets, and the sunvisors will have an area indented so they become hiden. I'm thinking of a few fabrics but they wont have been done before. The vinyl is still in my mind since it will be a new board but i'm gonna have to find a nice foam backing and then find a nice heat resistent glue to hold it to the new board. But i really like the idea of malking my won headliner board. I'm gonna try to fiber glass the one i currently have, and just make modifacations to it before hand. IT might a be a bit bigger since things will be different but trust me you will like it. I am thinking about making the pocket look like a ram air hood thing. Than'd be cool, wouldn't it???

Tell me what ya think

thanks,
Shane

i dont want a metal headliner, first it wont stay, too heavy and plus if you hit it it would hurt your head.

I would pay to see one of two things....

Either that fur headliner hanging from a tree branch full of holes from being shot with a shotgun or;

Hanging from a wall like a trophy. When people ask what it is, tell them you went to africa and shot a headlinerous giganticus.

LOL!

Good job taking it down...burn that shiot!!!!

I don't wanna hijack this thread, but I think I've had enough!!!!
benoit454, is this the language you guys learn in WV. My goodness. Use the language properly and try using some punctuation!!!

I skip over your posts because the way you write is so annoying! I would think it takes more time to figure out how to spell "aight", then spelling it "alright" (the English way)

Again, not trying to hijack.

I never said the content of your posts were bad or unhelpful. It's just hard to read whatever you type due to misspelled words, incorrect or no punctuation, ghetto language and run on sentences.

People swear all the time when talking to friends and family, but it takes a conscious effort to type out the swear words. That, to me, can also be avoided on message boards. The use of slang and total disregard for the English language when typing is also avoidable.

Guilty as charged! The comment about WV education was uncalled for. I apologize to any offended. It was a first reaction. I saw the posts, had a hard time deciphering the language and wanted to know where benoit was from. I can understand a foreigner trying to speak and type English, having issues getting it all correct, but I was surprised to see a US state listed.

BTW, I'm a moderator of the History board. I have not banned anybody, and I don't plan on it because of a disagreement I have with someone. That would be a total abuse of the position. My comments were made as a member of TGO, not a moderator.

I swear all the time on boards, to put a visible emphasis on something I feel strongly about..like, "that is really f-ing ugly", etc. I dont think its a big deal cause the word filter will pick anything offensive up. And it says hey, I feel strongly enough about this to use an expletive.
Not trying to flame or argue with you Scott.

BUT, back on topic , Shane, have you made any descisions about what you wanna do?

It's certainly not the education system in WV. I live here and I am pretty much deaf from nerve damage. Imagine trying to learn to read and write while being deaf. My spelling and english is good.

Back to the subject, glad you decided to change it and haven't killed anyone yet like you spoke of on another board.

(Note: Had to edit my message because some poor kid was insulted and filled my pm box up. Hope he's happy now.)

Hedge trimmers!!

Can't say I liked the fur option, but it is your car and if it's what you like......

I think a custom foamed leather headliner would be sweet. Some of the street rods at car shows have the door panels done with fancy designs and shapes covered by leather. Someone on the boards did his with flames, but I think it was regular headliner material.

i/m here to help ppl and give opinions and ppl like you is what makes me hate web sites always have to be proper and evrything a certain way.
for your info and everyone elses ok i am not a perfectionist typer i do not type well. why?
because my eyesite is very bad ok and i am right on top of the computer when i type and its hard to see keys.
i also type very fast and my eyes do not keep up and focus when me hands are moving they move faster then my eyes i am sorry i say it alot but i cant stand pl goin to make fun of junk like that n be the way u were about it and come right out and say it like that its like u see a man in a wheel chair do u run up and go man i can't stand u rolling around like that move faster or slower or something.
i consider it rude u guys can think what u want and do what u want.
ppl goin to keep this up and don't want my help or adive i'll no longer give it i'll leave this site completely due to it turning into ne3g.
i am here to help i am sorry if i cause you ppl so much trouble tryin to read what i type that u have to become rude about it and on top of al that the guys makin the rules and tryin to set examples for us all comin in here bein rude and typing up stuff like this.
and wonder why we get so many closed posts and banned members because of ppl bein rude and flaming and sayin very harsh things.
id u feel that way then fine u want to ban me i dont care i'm here to help ppl not to have my bals busted and humiliated and put down and talked about badly by ppl for no reason esp mods.
Um, first of all... If the real reason you type like that is because your eyes have trouble keeping up, then you REALLY ought to take everyones advice. Because typing the words PROPERLY means typing MORE letters, which means youll be typing SLOWER, and your eyes wont have to move as fast to keep up. Seems pretty logical to me.

And theres a huge difference in recommending that you type better, and insulting a person in a wheelchair for not being able to walk. The guy in the wheelchair still comes off as intelligent and with some form of education. Now, im not saying you ARENT intellingent, just that your posts dont come off that way. Im sure you DO have a lot of valuable insight to add to peoples conversations, but its everyones loss (yours and theirs) if people are automatically discounting your opinion because they cant understand a damn thing your saying.

Man, you guys judge to quickly and too easily.
You assume a man types bad he's stupid, ignorent, didn't go through school and if so he had special ed classes or failed them.
That is not the case at all period.
I would gladly break out my old report cards and show you guys.
No typing more letters makes it worse. I watch myself type but my hands move on their own almost, they think they know the keys but misstroke and go wrong or get ahead of themselves many times over.
I do what I can to correct this but I'm alwasy thinking 20 things at one time and typing during the whole process so liek I said i appologize for it many times over but can't help it most of the time. I have to constantly kep on myself to go slow so I can type better like this post.
It's just my eyes I can't keep up and keep track of what my hands are doing. They don't focuz fast enough and I get in a hurry like many other things like eating and all I'm very used do eating fast due to no time when I was in school and all and I type fast due to messengers and ppl going 90 miles a min. and me not being able to keep up and losing track of what they say. When I do keep up though I type badly as you all see so again sorry guys my bad I'll keep trying. If you can't read it instead of jumping al over a guys *** just ask me to type it again like, come again? say again? what was that?
Instead of saying your typing is sooo bad you shouldn't be on here or man you are stupid , you didn't go to school or soemthing you dumb ******* or inbreed hillbily that sort of deal. I 'm not saying you guys said that I know you didn't just giving an example instead of being harsh just ask nicely and that would avoid flames and arguments on theese boards which takes up to much space and this is the 2nd post fomr my friend shane he's had highjacked over me. So this wil be my last message about this if you guys see me again it'll be asking a question straight and to the point or maybe giving my honest opinions to what someone else asked.

Dude, Prozac is your friend. Calm down. If you READ my post, i CLEARLY stated that i WASNT saying that you were ignorant. I said YOU COME OFF THAT WAY.

I dont recall myself calling you any names, or saying that you were stupid. I never said you failed any classes, and i dont need to see your report card. I have my own, thanks.

BTW, shanes posts are gonna get hijacked anyway, lol...

The fur surely wan't my cup of tea, but all i can say is,

Be sure you are walking away from the fur because YOU want to, not because people on an internet forum took the pis<x>s out of your work so much it made you dislike it.

The fur wasn't something id do, but it was well executed.

just make sure its what you want, its your car, no one except you has the right to alter it in any way.
