Changing Dash Gauge Bulbs
Most of my gauge bulbs are burn't out so at night you can barely see the cluster. Is there an easy way to change these? The haynes manual has you taking the steering wheel off and half the dash. IS that the only way? It i

I have done the lights on an 87 84 86 89. birds the 86 and up class have little orange "condoms" on the bulbs that can be removed very easily for brighter light... The only hard thing you might run into is the non electronic speedo.. it just takes a little more finess

I just did this on my 88 GTA with digital dash (so it may be a little different), and there was no "easy" way to do it. It wasn't too difficult as I did not have to remove the steering wheel, but I did take out as much dash trim as possible and removed the screws that held down the dash pad (for a little extra clearance). Some gentle wiggling and the cluster comes out pretty easily. It goes back in with slightly more wiggling. Tilt steering comes in handy, too.
If you take your time, it shouldn't take more than an hour or so. One word of advice though, make sure all the lights work before you put it all back together. I had to take mine apart because the bulb behind the tach was out. Double check with the lights on and off. I did mine in sunlight and didn't realize until I started the car at night. After that, I kept checking that all the lights worked at every step of reassembly. Mama always said, "Don't let the same dog bite you twice."
