Need help with insurance compensation

I got hit in my camaro leaving my apartment yesterday and I just called in the claim and they said they would send someone out to give me a estimate of repairs. I thought that I got to go around to body shops and get the estimate myself and they had to pay it. I know that its my right to get my car repaired at the shop of my choice but what if they dont give me enough money to get my car repaired at the shop I want and properly for that matter?? I live in California I dont know if other states differ. Just wondering If anyone else has been in a similar situation. let me know

Where i live Auto shops much be certified to do insurance claims. Where i live car insurance is called ICBC. so a Shop must be ICBC certified to fix your car. If you goto a certified shop get an estimate, take that estimate to ur insurance company, they can use that estimate.
If YOU were hit, and it wasn't your fault. You will pay NOTHING, not even a deductible. The person at fault must incur all expenses.

If you even find a nice local owned shop, they can bill you for what the damage was, and if you skim off some of the xtras.. such as if the charge you for a new fender, but u get a used one. and other minor stuff, you might even be able to get a few xtras done.

let me guess you have gieco (spell) or similar.

My sister had the same thing happen when she got rear ended in her mustang. They sent out a agent and gave an estimate of 300 bucks. I took the car to a real body shop and the bumper cover itself was 300 bucks. It needed a new inpact bar, and it had pushed the car into another and knocked the rivots off the front bumper surport. Real cost was 2000 to fix. So go ahead and get a real estimate from a body shop you want, and hold them to it, in georgia atleast its your choice. You may need to talk so someone in your state about the law in your state, most layers will tell you over the phone if you call up one that advertises on tv.
