how to shave antenna...
ok, now my car is primerd, and get the idea of putting the wire under the dash, but what do i do after i cut the antenna base off. can i just use body filler? and then when i get it painted it would just paint over it? no access to welding either...whats a good way???

Dude, you're scaring me. The antenna unbolts from the fender-- you don't have to "cut the antenna base off." But before you even unbolt it: If you don't have access to a welder, forget about shaving the antenna. The hole is too big to patch with filler and it will crack back out if you do.

The correct way is weld in a peice of metal,
Check with some shops see if you can use the welder or have it welded in, muffler shops might be willing to do it for you if you fab the peice up and take it to them.
Bad way, use indurstral epoxy and glue a peice of metel under the hole and bondo it smooth, but if you are putting a nice paint job on the car DO NOT DO IT THIS WAY

i just started shaving my antenna hole last night. Welding is the best way to go. All i did was weld a quarter behind it, its the perfect size. You could just use JB weld to hold the quarter on and bondo on the top.

definently do not try to fill it with just body filler. It wouldn't last very long at all.....there is nothing on the bottom to hold it in place....even regular road vibrations could and would knock it out....it would crack and fall out. Just check a few shops to see if they could just weld it shut...no big deal...I wouldn't think it would cost much if all they have to do is weld it up and not finish it.

You sure you can get good reception with the wire under the dash? i tried that once an found it was real crappy. Maybe if someone made an antenna window sticker / sun shade.

I put on a new finder before i painted it and it had no hole for the antenna ,i liked it better and did not put one. for the raido i just ran a small wire from the raido connector up under the dash and then the front windshild. works great.
you can see a pic of the finder on my site at:
