Rear Hatch Shocks....AAAAARRRRGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can someone please tell me where to get STRONG rear hatch shocks that actually HOLD UP our heavy @$$ glass?
Baught 2 @ a juncyard that held up it's cars glass, but the car was sitting at an angle. Painted them and put them on my car.
Still needs Viagra!

I got mine from O Reily's about a year and a half ago. The trunk actually went up by itself after poping it from inside. It did that for about 3 months, but they still hold up the hatch no problem.

I just received new struts from TDS (see link above!) and they are very good. They fitted in about 4 minutes, and work a treat.
Okay so they fitted in 4 minutes plus the 3 hours to find a welder to weld the mount back on that I hadn't realised was broken.
Having got it all back together, the TDS struts are brilliant. I push the release, and with a slight lift, they open by themselves, with a very controlled slow down 4" before the fully open endstop. Well worth the money!

im guessing weather or something had something to dowith it. You could prob replace just one of them (the worst one) and it would work fine.

Yeah it gets super hot down here. I can't count the number of rear view mirrirs that have fallen off of cars that I know off. The sun just wears everything out. I got sunburnt on my neck today working on the back porch for about 2 hours, and I was in shade half of the time.

Just put the A-zone shocks on mine. About 55 bucks for both and I push the button and the lid pops up all by itself. Have the defrost connectors too.

I think I got mine at pep boys, but if not it was one of that type place... paid about $65 for the pair, and they are still working a year later. And that is thru the heat of last summer here in FL too.

Couple questions about the shocks:
1. Is it possible to somehow keep them in store-like condition, working the same as they did when you first installed them, by lubing them somehow to keep the seals fresh or something?
2. If the sun is the problem, why can't someone put some pipe insulation around them to keep them cool?
I have to get a new pair... I just love the way the hatch falls on me when I reach to get something out of the back (OUCH!!)

Hello Maverick H1L,
Unfortunately, there is no way to keep them in store like condition. You can lube the struts with a light oil and such, however these are gas filled struts and will eventually leak down over a period of time regardless of what you do.
Alright GTA4ME, let's not get all smerky here on us poor mortals HUH!!!!!!!

The only reason i said weather Maverick H1L, was not for the heat but i find in the extream cold the shocks work less...maybe in extream heat they do also i dont know.

Axle/Gears: Slow lol.
Well, it's like anything else. When it's warm, everything expands, so it's a little tighter and will hold up better.
When it's cold, it all contracts and is a little looser. And in that time when it's cold, with every open and close, it loses a mall bit of the gas charge.
So, as long as you don't open your hatch in the winter, your fine lol.
But that's all just my theory lol. Maybe not actual fact, lol.

Get them from Advance Auto Parts. They have 3 different listings for different spoiler and wiper options and are lifetime guaranteed! I bought my set 6 years ago and they still work perfectly, even in Florida heat!

Frugal and just plain being a cheap _ss is two seperate things.
Generally... cutting corners to pinch a few pennys, ends up biting you in the _ss and costing more in the long run (ie: you pissed away $X for crap hatch struts and now have to pay more to acually buy new ones that work.. even if it were $2 for the turds.. that's $2 saved plus your time pissed away to remove and install just to find out.. wow.. they really are crap). Just my opinion though...
