1982 Camaro Fiberglass hoods?...

I know that in 82 Camaros had the dual scoop fiberglass hoods. But I was wondering if all of them had it. Or maybe only certian models. Mostly because I"m going to be getting a free 82 Camaro soon and am wondering if the hoods fiberglass.

If you wanna know what it looks like to compare, just lemme know. That 89 IROC I bought came with the 82 glass hood. But I swapped it out for the iron hood off my 89 RS before painting it. The 82 glass hood will make a comeback on the 89 RS when it gets painted. The vents will work real well with the open element air filters for the carb setups we'll both be running. But supprisingly, the 82 glass hood is still pretty heavy. You can compare it to the aftermarket hood on my 91 Z if you want. I think its almost double the weight of the aftermarket hood, but still much lighter than the steel hoods.

I'll get some pics soon. Before and after paint, as well as vent closeups and show of the underbelly. Whoever owned it before me did an insane crackhead job attempting to paint it. I cant believe how many potholes are on the hood. I'll have to sand it for days ... but hey it was pretty much free so I guess I shouldnt complain.

Revlimit: i believe only cross-fire equipped cars came with that hood judging by the gasket on the underside of that hood and the opening of a cfi air cleaner... i may be wrong though

the underside of the hood:

CrazyHawaiian: I'm gonna beat you to those pics! i found one of those hoods at a junkyard and i'm gonna post them up...

HA. I knew you had those pics somewhere.

90firebird, I am the sole proprietor of that hood in those pictures. I figured it was a rare find so I picked it up from the boneyard, and with my tbi I thought i could fab something up. However, I dont think Ill be staying with the LO3 so now I got a junked hood in the garage Sorry for going off topic, just thought id put a claim to the hood in the pic

The carbed Z28's got the same hood but with non-functional hood flaps. Crossfire ones did though It's not fiberglass either, some other name for it something like SMC... at any rate, it's not metal

Hey guys thanks for all the help...damn I hope this car has the SMC hood on it. I'd really like to shave off some weight from the front.
