i have finally got my car painted after a 2 month process that was not fun and very time consuming. turned out pretty decent i did not think that the t tops would turn out so good they are the lexan ones and well could not see out of them anyways and i have a spare glass ones when i want.

AWESOME!
I really like the body colored t-tops that are interchangeable with glass ones. It kinda reminds me of my dad's Corvette. He has both a body colored targa top as well as a glass one.
I wish I had that on my Z! Looks great!

Very nice. I can honestly say that I've never seen anyone do that with their ttops before, I like it.
You need to get some pics in the sun to really show off that color though

very nice choice with the t-tops. i've only seen one other car do that in person and it looked sharp. i also like the subtle touch of the beauty or trim ring painted to match around the rear glass. nice little touch.
car looks really good.

The lexan t tops are useless to look out of. I do like the lexan ones for a few reasons. one of them is that the little rubber seal that goes along them that seal the window is made of a harder plastic and is less prone to start to peal out towards the back of the t top that I see most third gens.
I never used them besides going to the track some times because the glass ones look much better because the way they sit on third gens. They are flat and don’t budge up as much as the lexan ones do. I have a extra pair of glass ones and I have some stuff that I used on the plastic parts that I went down to bare plastic that says it can make the paint stick on glass as well. If it work out there will be glass ones on eventually.

wow, i love the idea of painted t tops and having a second set of glass ones. i love t tops, but i think the roofline of thirdgens (from the side) looks broken when the car is equipped with t tops. having a set of painted ones plus a set of glass ones when ur in the mood for it kicks ***! right on!

Wow, nice choice in the new color! It looks very smooth with the firebird hood (no vents) and and fenders (no side vents).

Wow bud... after all the crap you've gone through (engine, etc.,)getting your car to where it is now.. I'd say it's certainly starting to pay off for you. That is a sweet color you went with and very impressive results from where you started from. Excellent work

firbird - great paint! Looks awesome. I love Sunset Orange Metallic (SOM)... I had a SOM Trans Am till last year:
(more pix at http://mwshowgo67.com/sunsettransam/mainpix.htm )
Your project gives me some ideas about my IROC. I've been thinking about paint, since its original paint is pretty far gone. I was thinking about a color change, but I know it's a major pain to hit the door jambs and under the hood. I might be able to skip painting the jambs if I chose SOM! (the car is brilliant red metallic from the factory). Did you paint under the hood and in the door jambs? How did they turn out?

I did not get to do in my engine bay yet I ran out of time and also money. I did not have enough time to get the motor out and completely strip the engine bay out. My plan was to get the part I could not drive my car in Christmas break between semesters in college for a time when I did not have to have my car even though I did not succeed doing that. The first time it was in the paint booth was for the door jams, hatch area, and under the hood on the inner fenders were it bolts up and the hinges. Then put the weather stripping back on and did the body of the car next time and then after that I took all the gfx and small parts in to get painted. The door jams and every thing else I did the fist time I was in the booth turned out really good also.
When I find some time, probably be never but when I do I will rip every thing out of my engine bay and get it shot up.

i work in a shop and we send all our body work to a body shop down the road and they send some of there mechanical problems to us so we know each other pretty good and they allowed me to take my car there and use there booth.
There is however another place i could have taken it. The military base around were i live has a hobby shop that has all that stuff and they provide all the tools that my friend said he could rent out for me but i rather not use that because of the difficulty to get in ever since 9/11

alright guys, i need some help. im wanting to paint my Z-28 either black, or sunset orange. it is a t-top car, and the only reason i like black is because the t-tops are black, and that would give the car that "hard top" look. what do you think about painting the car sunset orange, but leaving the t-tops the same? firbird, could you post a picture of youre car w/ the black t-tops in so i could get an idea of what it might look like? im planning on getting it painted here within the next month or so, so i kinda need to be deciding on what i want. what do yall think?
